  1. Hi all! So I just got my hands on a backwards compatible PS3 phat that I'm going to downgrade using a teensy 2.0 ++. Thing is, I haven't had a finger on the PS3 scene for a looooong time. Apparently, Rogero is no longer in the scene and his CFW was my go to back in the day. So question is, with all the different CFW flavors out there, does anyone here have a recommendation on which firmware I should go with? And if you have the inclination, could you tell me why?
  2. Hello. I am running Cobra ODE on Superslim 4k system with a firmware version on 4.55. I got it installed by one of the serviceman for the ps3 in my area. My question is whenever I try to convert a ps3iso to swap iso I get an error the eboot.bin file wasn't found this iso doesn't need to be converted. I have tried resigning the eboot file but the problem still persists. I am a complete noob when it comes to ODE . So could someone please guide me how to play backups on my system? Maybe a detailed tutorial consisting of everything I need to play would be helpful. The serviceman gave me a Swap Disc already

It allows for the install and deletion of .pkg files from dev_hdd0/packages, dev_usb/packages and the standard Install Package Files locations. In addition to this, your downloaded PSN content ‘bubbles’ will appear under this option instead of cluttering your Game menu with uninstalled content. USAGE: Navigate to Game in your XMB and click on Package Manager (It will be where Install Package Files usually is). You will find three options. PlayStation®Network Content Manage your downloaded PlayStation®Network Content. Install Package Files INSTALL package files from Storage Devices and your PS3. PS3 Hard Disk (dev_hdd0/packages) Package Folder (dev_usb/packages) Standard Package Location (Standard Install Package Files locations) NOTE: The Install All Packages is only available by pressing the TRIANGLE button when the Standard Package Location option is highlighted because the PS3 will only install ALL packages from the root of a storage device as of the moment. How to Install a Plugin: Copy plugin_name.sprx to you internal ps3 hdd (ex: /dev_hdd0/). Create or Edit boot_plugins.txt in the root of the hdd (/dev_hd00/boot_plugins.txt) and add a line for the new plugin. In the event of a bad plugin that crashing the system and causes a pseudo-brick A Safety System has been designed: Enter PS3 Recovery Mode and select the option “Rebuild database“. The recovery process, emer_init.self, will mount dev_hdd0 for a short moment, Cobra core will detect that and it will delete boot_plugins.txt. Cobra core won’t load vsh plugins when there is not VSH: like for example, in recovery and update modes. Cobra 7.02 PS2 Features (4.65 Cobra) PlayStation 2 on NON-BC Consoles Software (SW) Emulation:Support for PS2 ISOs in non BC consoles was removed in Cobra 4.30 (usb), due tops2_softemu missing. It has been re-enabled now by hacking of ps2_netemu. You can use it in the same way as before, just load an ISO and launch from disc icon, Cobra core takes care of rest. No need for encrypted isos, isos patched with limg sectors, etc. Just your normal PS2 isos dumped from discs. However, there is no support for optical discs in ps2_netemu.Note: Don’t forget to set the memory cards in XMB, in the old memmory card utility for PS/PS2, as ps2_netemu won’t let you assign them in game. PlayStation 2 on BC Consoles Hardware (HW) Emulation: PS3 Models: CECHC, CECHE, CECHA and CECHB Backwards Compatible (BC) Consoles will still use their respetive emulators(ps2_emu, ps2_gxemu), which have much better compatibility and also support optical discs, original or backup. IMPORTANT INFORMATION QA SUPPORT QA is supported in all REBUG FIRMWARE. It is good practice to enable QA for a smoother experience on any CFW not just REBUG. OTHEROS++ SUPPORT OtherOS++ is supported by all REBUG REX EDITIONS and will detect your existing OtherOS HDD partition. However none of the REBUG REX EDITIONS have emer_init.self patched (create smaller GameOS partition). We are working on a solution to this from GameOS. In the meantime if you do want to create an OtherOS partition you have two options: 1: Use a 3.55 firmware that already has emer_init.self patched to the size you want. 2: Patch REBUG 3.55.x REX EDITION in PS3MFW Builder If you choose option 2 we highly recommend that you ONLY patch emer_init.self. Also the resulting PUP will only be able to be installed on 3.55 firmware as the spkg_hdr will be mismatched. REBUG 4.21.x AND HIGHER INSTALL: From XMB install REBUG 4.21.x AND HIGHER over any 3.55 OFW/CFW/MFW or the same or lower firmware version CFW with spkg sig check patched or any firmware version CFW with spkg sig check patched and QA enabled. UNINSTALL: From XMB REBUG 4.21.x AND HIGHER can be uninstalled with the same or higher firmware version OFW/CFW/MFW or with REBUG 3.55.x REX EDITION on a QA enabled PS3 or with the ‘999’ DOWNGRADER if QA was NOT enabled. 5. Hello everybody. I'll try to add some custom launching animations. I recently made it onto my xbox and I'm really content with it. Pretty eager to make some animations. PS3 launch: This might be a little hate to the XBOX 360, But it still is awesome. Also more to come sooner or later.
  6. Yep that's right right streaming games with a PC is now feasible, and here's how! Requirements: 1: Jailbroken ps3 on any CFW (as far as i know it works on any cfw) 2: Latest Multiman (found here) 3: PS3netsrv (found here) 1: Okay so first things first, make sure to have the latest Multiman for your jailbroken ps3. after you got that you'll want to get ps3netsrv for your pc that your gonna be streaming games from (the games you can stream have to be in ISO format, a straight up rip did not work for me). 2: Now that you have everything downloaded you'll need to get the ip of the pc you're using to stream your games. To do this you need to open up command prompt (cmd) and type in "ipconfig" without quotes and then your ip will show under "IPv4 Address" should be something like 192.168.0.100 (can be different for you). 3: Now that we got the ip of the of your using you need to go into multiman. Under the settings tab in multiman find "Network Servers" and then click on the "/nethost0 - Enable". on the text boxes that show up type your IP address for the pc your using, the next box just leave 38008, then on the last box you can put a friendly name the you want to have for it. 4: Okay now back on the pc you'll want to run the "PS3NETServer.exe" (if it comes up saying you don't have the Msvbvm50 file on your pc then run the Msvbvm50.exe and let that install). once you have that open click the "..." box to browse the folder you'll be having your games in. once you have that folder selected click start. inside that folder you are now using to stream your games there should be two new folders inside called "GAMES" and "PS3ISO", if not then make them and place your iso games into the PS3ISO folder. 5: Now back on your ps3 go into the mmos (file manager) in Multiman and you should see either "net_host" or the friendly name you used, go into that directory and you should see the two folders PS3ISO and GAMES. once you make sure you can see those folders then go into your games column and hit refresh the games that is in the PS3ISO folder should now be on your games list. A few extra things to know: the IP of your computer your using to stream your games can change. you just need to go back to settings on Multiman then under Network Servers click on the new option that should have your previous ip and such to change the ip to the new one. the way you can keep the ip address on your pc the same without having to worry about it changing is to set a static IP address via your internet router settings (every router is different and can very so for this reason i wont be showing how to do this, google is your best friend). Wi-Fi works but can be slow in loading times for that i recommend using a direct Ethernet connection. If anyone has questions please feel free to ask! Credits go out to all the Devs that made this possible and credit goes to the user that posted the original tut i found here
  7. Cobra ODE News - Update The much anticipated 1.6 firmware update is now available for download. The biggest feature of this update is the addition of the new auto-eject feature. You can now switch games without rebooting and without ejecting discs. All from the comfort of your couch. The new auto-eject feature does not require any modifications to the ODE, nor does it require any new accessories or soldering, it is now available to all ODE users, from all models, with the simple update of your Cobra ODE. We have also added periodical polling of the HDD to prevent hard drives from going to sleep mode which made some games freeze if they had been paused for a while. The HDD polling can be disabled or configured from the cobra.cfg file. When Cobra ODE was first released, we had seen a huge amount of positive feedback, although many users had two major concerns, the first being the use of homebrew to achieve game selection, and the second being the need to reboot or eject discs in order to switch games. With the Cobra ODE browser support which was added in v1.5 and the auto-eject feature added in v1.6, we have resolved both of these concerns for our users. Today, the Cobra ODE looks like a brand new device with a completely new user experience, which we think will make most of you happy. The Cobra Team is the first to bring true "no eject, no reboot" feature to the PS3 ODE world for all models and we will continue to bring you new exciting features in the future. You can now grab the 1.6 update form the downloads section. Please refer to the user manual for updated instructions on how to use the auto-eject feature. We are also releasing an update to ps3genextra tool which generated the Cobra ODE Browser, please use this version with the 1.6 update. Concurrently, we are releasing an update to the Cobra ODE Manager which adds support for the auto-eject feature and in parallel releasing an update to the third party integration library which allows third party managers to use the auto-eject feature. Enjoy Tortuga Cove's updated review. Cobra has released their 1.6 MCU update which added a couple impressive features. 1. No longer required to reset or eject the system on game change. To do this you press the PS button then navigate to the disc icon on the XMB press triangle and select "remove disc" which takes you back to the XMB and enables a new game selection. (note: For superslim 4xxx model users, the “Remove disc†option is not available in the XMB, you can enable the “manager.on_reboot=1†configuration option in the cobra.cfg file and reboot the console or you can open and close the drive cover to switch back to manager mode.) 2. No longer requires a homebrew app launch to select games. So today I downloaded all the required files to update the ODE to latest MCU fw and then ran the required "genps3extra 1.1" The "genps3extra 1.1" app is a required PC app that enables game selection via the XMB, via a custom generated manager it builds based on the iso list in your game directory. To be absolutely honest I found the instructions in the manual requiring how to use this a little confusing, so let me break it down. When they say select the "COBRA_ODE_BROWSER" directory they mean the folder that comes in the genps3extra 1.1 archive. Then you select the COBRA folder on your USB drive. This must be done every time the ISO list changes on the drive. A small thing worth noting is the new manager is kinda hefty in size with mine taking 334mb. Upon testing it functioned exactly as they said with the game loading seconds after selecting, and a flawless return to the XMB upon selecting remove disc from XMB after mounting. These are great additions and made a good product even better. I stand firmly behind my previous review stating this is a good hardware solution for people who either want ntfs game mounting support on cfw or people on OFW 3.56 with no downgrade options. For additional info please see my first review for full info about this product, as this review should be considered a addendum to that review. ~igor242 (review was done on mcu update 1.6 and Cobra Browser) All links below link directly to Cobra's official webpage. 8. I know many people aren't fans of ODEs, but here is our review. First off Cobra ODE boasts a feature list of: Supports virtually all PS3's including previously "unbreakable" 2k5,3k and 4k systems! Homebrew now possible on previously "unbreakable" 2k5,3k and 4k systems! Play games on SEN in pass-through or emulation modes**! On screen selection of games through Cobra ODE manager in XMB Emulation or pass-through modes Advanced Smart Fusion AES encryption and decryption engine on board Fully updatable high speed FPGA's and high speed secure MCU on board Updatable via USB storage Expansion ports for future proofing Simple and easy to use High quality components used throughout Built at a high tech facility Solderless installation on FAT*** and SLIM (2xxx and 21xx) series Easy installation on 25xx,3xxx and 4xxx series Slim and Super Slim series consoles with QSB (quick solder board) Easy setup for PATA or SATA consoles Advanced software onboard and frequent free updates BD Movie support to follow (In a future update) PS1 and PS2 ISO support to follow (on BC consoles in a future update) PS3 BD game disc dumping on all PS3 consoles is supported and can be enabled through third party managers (dumping throughput will be improved in future updates) **We cannot guarantee the longevity of this feature owing to the use of homebrew app to achieve it. As you can see a couple of the features aren't yet working so I was unable to review those. Consoles Supported: FAT: CECHA (PATA) CECHB (PATA) CECHC (PATA) CECHE (PATA) CECHG (PATA) CECHH (PATA) CECHK (PATA) CECHL (SATA) (most consoles)*** SLIM: CECH2XXX (SATA) CECH21XX (SATA) CECH25XX (SATA) CECH3XXX (SATA) SUPER SLIM: CECH4XXX (SATA) ***FAT consoles (SATA) CECHL, CECHM, CECHP and CECHQ with drive controller BMD-21 will be supported in a future hardware iteration If you have one of the consoles in red, its not supported at the moment nuff said. Ok on to the actual review. Cobra sent me a sample to review, and I tinkered with it hard. It has a couple problems, but nothing that makes it awful or unusable, we'll get to those later. First off lets go over install: I installed this on a CECHA01 that was running 3.55.4 rebug rex cfw. On this console Cobra ODE is in fact plug and play. A minor issue is that the FCC ribbons they send in package are a bit too long, and require bending to make them work and taping to secure the extra lengths, also the ODE must be placed in the proper location or the ribbons can be knocked loose by the ridges coming off the underside of the top shell piece. The location in the install guide was actually a bit off for me, and I had to spend a while tinkering with it to get it installed properly. A warning: Just because the cobra is functioning doesn't mean its installed properly or securely. Double check your connections, then check them a third time just to be sure. Turn the consoles main power on but don't start the console and check the red led in the back while replacing the top shell. If the led goes out, the ODE board is in the wrong place, and is being moved by the shell panel. Furthermore, using the ODE in a unstable setup can cause freezing and other issues related to game play, I personally had a unstable install for a while and wasnt aware, when the game froze the system became unresponsive causing me to kill power at the switch at the back. When i turned the console back on, the file system on the internal hdd was corrupted beyond recovery and i lost all data on it. UNSTABLE CONNECTIONS ARE BAD MM'KAY! Now then, knowing 3K3Y supports GUID partitions (hard drives with larger then 2tb on a single partition) I tried one on cobra ODE, they are not supported. The ODE didn't see the hard drive at all. Since this is not a feature they advertise anyways, consider yourselves warned. A 2tb WD elements hard drive formatted to NTFS with default windows cluster sizes worked fine however. How it works: Cobra's main manager is not pretty, but fully functional. You insert the hard drive with the proper files in the proper directorys into the rear USB port on the ODE (this is all covered fully in the user's manual). If everything is functioning the led should turn green. Once it turns green your ready to play. Boot the console, and insert one of the many supported discs (a full list can be gotten from them and its quite massive and they support a lot of games.) I personally had at least 3 that I have owned for years, including the USA releases of "Resistance", "Resistance 2", and "Genji: Days of the Blade". Once you insert a supported disc, the disc icon should come up stating "Cobra Manager" unless the ODE is in pass through mode. Pick a game or homebrew that's been built to function as a .iso, and the manager will tell you to either "eject the disc or reboot the console." Do one of those 2 things and when you reach the XMB again the iso you picked is now the Disc icon on the XMB. Pretty simple, and you're now ready to enjoy the game you chose. Updating: Updating the ODE is simple, turn the console off at the main power switch on the back, wait 5 seconds and you just place the mcu file in the root of a compatible hdd or thumbstick. Insert the storage decive you used into the usb port on the back of the console and turn the main power back on. It will flash a series of lights if it sees the update file then go back to either solid red (if you only have the update file on it) or solid green (if its on the root of the storage device you keep the cobra ODE files located). If you update the console while the ODE is installed, (I updated to 4.46.1 rebug rex after installing the ODE) YOU MUST PLACE THE ODE INTO PASSTHOURGH MODE Failure to do so will cause the system update to fail with a error code related to the BD rom drive. That's it for the ODE itself. However another thing Cobra did, was release the libraries needed to compile other managers to work with it. People have already discussed Multiman as a alternative manager, But I'm going to discuss Eleganz released by KaKaRoTo. While his manager is also simple, it boasts one important feature. After selecting a game when the "eject or reboot" text comes up. Simply quit Eleganz via the xmb, and the console will reboot on its own. You are now ready to play. In the end, Cobra ODE is a nice functional product that does 1 very nice additional feature in allowing homebrew that doesn't rely on specific cfw syscalls to function on non-softmoddable ps3's. It's a bit sad not all boasted features are available now, but im sure they will be supported in later updates to the ODE. All in all this product is a good product, and while many will complain about the price. Its not much more expensive then other ODEs on the market and I like it. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to either save space on their internal hard drive and not have to split files for external, or looking to avoid compatibility issues with internal/external hard drives with games, or looking for a easy method to mod ofw 3.56+ consoles, that doesn't require hardware flashing and possibly remarrying the BD drive. ~igor242 (review was done on mcu update 1.2 and manager version 1.1) All links below link directly to Cobra's official webpage.
