  1. For the devkit or the garage full of bricked classics? I'd like to just softmod this devkit if I can get away with it but right now my primary concern is just getting it to boot normally stock first. Bear in mind, I only have the chip, no cables, nothing... Will have to source out those parts once I figure out what they are and what software I'll need for it. Looks like I'll need the POGO board for it too since the pin header on this devkit is 8x2
  2. It says on the bottom of the padding X2 Pro
  3. I got the modchip now its an Executer 2 correct? What all might I need to use this little gem on these problematic abandonware projects? I have about 25 retail xbox's that are bricked that I do plan on fixing up soon.
  4. ###UPDATE### So after trying the superdisc to no avail, I went and made my EEPROM Reader//Writer as Gavin suggested by following this video here: That was easy enough, then following how to use the stuff the writer of the video did a follow-up on how to dump the EEPROM here: His links are out of date but I did find liveinfo here: http://theisozone.com/downloads/xbox/tools/live-info-eeprom-viewer/ And a compatible version of PonyProg here: http://www.lancos.com/ppwin95.html NOTE: You will want the older version of PonyProg... What the creator of the TuT failed to mention was that USB to RS232 adapters do not work for beans with the EEPROM cable. For the life of me I thought it was the cable I made until I scrounged up an old legacy system (Windows 98 even!!!) that had a serial port and successfully dumped the EEPROM. Thought my problems were solved and that I'd be able to use the Locker//Unlocker Linux program to build a new drive with this new info but no.... Sadly... According to this guys article here http://www.s-config.com/original-xbox-debug-console/ Devkits do NOT Lock/Unlock hard drives.... Therefore, that info is unneeded and even moreso, it's reflected on the EEPROM dump when no serial number is given and Liveinfo says "This EEPROM could not be decrypted ! This is not a valid V1.0 or V1.1 EEPROM image..." with the EEPROM data on the converted *.bin file. Devkit related issue I'm assuming... =\ So I did some more research and I found that using a devkit recovery cd could fix my problem. In this case I used XDK 5849 (Google is your friend if you ever need this) I won't hotlink it and I hope you understand why... The Recovery disc didn't even load at boot. The drive works fine, I've tested it on my working oldschool Xbox... So other than the Coma Console fix, which allows me to get video on this PoS, I'm still back at square one with nothing but a splash screen. No error codes (because its a Beta 2 prototype devkit from 2001 I'm further assuming) Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I now have a DVD drive that works in it, and a hard drive which I'd like to use for it but at the splash screen, the M$ logo does not show up, it just hangs at the flubber sequence. Is this BIOS or TSOP related??? I could greatly use any advice from the oldschool hardware hackers of this consoles generation to hopefully get her up and running.
  5. @ Stanley789 I find that using a spreader (If you have one) to get it as thin as possible is the best route, remember, you're not cooling it more with the paste; instead, you're filling the grain of the heatsink itself so that solid heat transfer is occurring. Also: If you don't have a plastic spreader, putting your finger into a little plastic sandwich bag and pressing it in firmly with your fingertip works just as well. @Andoryuu3 Never heard of Shin Etsu MicroSi before, is it like those exotic compounds that are mixed with powdered aluminum and silver? some of the best stuff I've ever used which I can't find much in stores anymore was that original white grease crap that gets all over the place that is damn near permanent. You find it on old C=64's and Stereo equipment like amplifiers and the such. Great stuff actually!! It almost never bakes into a plastic.
  6. My temp doesnt get over 60C on my Slim Trinity EVER! unless.... it's summer..... Antec Nano diamond Formula 7 For The Win Arctic Silver is good stuff too, to each their own I guess... Cooling profile isn't even set in %'s in Dashlaunch, I set it at 60, it stays at 60, 65 if it's a hot day and it gets up to 105F out here where I live in the U.S.
  7. Not a problem at all bro. Anything that might help I'd think might be welcome
  8. I clicked it and did a copy/paste of the URL, I'm guessing that paypal uses an individual token for it... what about enabling users to donate cryptocurrency to RMS? I know it's a bit obscure but with the right script trade bots on Cryptsy it could be turned into an extra source of income for you guys, maybe see about getting a *.org domain for the tax breaks as well? From what I see you guys qualify for the non-profit status. Or would going *.org remove the ability of having advertisers?
  9. One thing that might "speed up" the updates and further developement would be for the community to make some donations to these guys for their hard work. Then maybe certain things that are dependant on a budget ie: server equipment, bandwidth increase for new users, etc... might happen as I've seen many people complaining about that. This is a community funded and supported project so c'mon guys, show your dev's some support!!! https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_flow&SESSION=8ooizQh-CS_VNRrbtNC_pw6clHPutiQDxXROAhoXhcL2Of70Qhfe1E61KaK&dispatch=5885d80a13c0db1f8e263663d3faee8d64ad11bbf4d2a5a1a0d303a50933f9b2 Maybe some of the RMS guys can implement a feature to allow users to donate cryptocurrency such as bitcoin, dogecoin, etc like demonoid does.
  10. It is a good thing that they don't give you any kind of payment or financial support Swizzy because you guys will be free and clear of the felony charges and fines when they finally get caught for doing it. I can understand the anger that you guys share over this and how you get next to no recognition for the really good work that you guys do for the modding scene from them. Just be happy that no one here will be implicated legally when the shit hits the fan. Also, they cannot even give you guys accessory or aiding and abetting charges since you guys have created a private scene and speak openly against Xbox Live hacking. Keep up the good work. I know $20 here and there from me don't pay the bills but I will try to be regular with donations now that I got some shit on my plate sorted out.
  11. hahahah that I do not good sir. If it was troubleshooting an IOS config, building something electronic from scratch, chemistry or engine and electrical mechanics then that would be a different story. I think when I'm done tinkering on my '97 Volvo 854R (exhaust/ full suspension / brake system / ECU upgrades) I'll probably crack open my programming textbooks and refresh myself with python.
  12. This is when I wish I knew more on programming because if it's script-based, then that would most likely be an if // else statement with two modules, one that directs to the standard coverflow module and the other module that is specifically for emulators correct?
  13. How difficult would it be to build it myself using your XeBuild GUI?
  14. It is entirely possible though; however, would need to standardize the image dimensions right? Not like you guys would want to make a code allowing for the rectangular shape of SNES games, the NES and Master System games cases were square in shape but most of the others could be resized to fit your current coverflow schemas. Very very low on the totem pole but I do really think it'd be a great idea! I can get most of the covers as awhile ago I did post a link for a place that has just about all of them as well as the disc art too. http://www.cdcovers.cc/covers This is a newer link that I just found that I think would be more promising http://www.thecoverproject.net/ Actually, browsing that site, it looks like all the covers could be migrated to fit your coverflow schemas flawlessly, including the Super Nintendo ones. ArcadeHITS (Every MAME rom to current PC build) and Gamefaqs (Consoles) have all of them actually which I used to use as a scraper service for an old Advance Launcher Kodi build for my old HTPC before I got into modding/repairing consoles. There's an idea maybe.
  15. Does this apply to all 360 devkits? I haven't even started to mess with that Slim Trinity Final Devkit that I got this last summer since I still need to locate a PSU for it.
  16. I wanted it for it's Hyperspin appeal. Looks really nice, just for some odd reason the right trigger button refuses to set in the program. I'd actually prefer to just have the values and manually edit the file myself and roll with that as I spent a shitload of time finding the Flyers, Titles, and video's for the games.
  17. Thanks man, I'll check this out. Still makes no sense that the map feature in FBA Next itself doesnt seem to fully work.
  18. http://www.speedyshare.com/KHNKh/54bec670/download/EmuCR-FBA-Next-029731.rar Here's a link for the emulator, I am wondering if anyone else has had problems mapping the controller inputs. I've been tinkering with this one because I like it's (somewhat) Hyperspin layout, the only real problem I'm having is finding TuT's on this program and I'm looking into MegaDrive support configs and remapping the controllers. The in-game input mapping seems bugged, so does anyone know the actual controller values I can put into the *.ini file? I'll be reading the ini file some more in hopes of understanding it better, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, anyone else having a "Please login to Paypal" error when trying to donate with this link for RMS? https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=6FQFKVG65JWZL I'm not getting that error anymore but two days ago I was having problems donating some money. It works now apparently.
  19. Like a few other members mentioned concerning the SMB protocol, and another member mentioned using Filezilla. Filezilla is what I use and it works for everything just fine. Here's a link. https://filezilla-project.org/download.php
  20. Ok, I'll make sure that one of the many drives that I put into it is a Samsung. Now for the AV cables, the weird thing is this: My set that I have for my softmodded one work perfectly find on the softmod console but not this one; I'd think bad AV port; however, my buddies cables which are older work just fine on it. Since its a devkit, it's most likely not region protected. Not too worried there. The drive I'll put into it is as high a capacity WD or Hitachi Deskstar HGST in EIDE format (Doubtful HGST was ever made as EIDE though...) I was considering using a SATA adapter on a 2-4TB Hitachi Deskstar HGST though... And any Deskstar's from the EIDE days when IBM owned them were absolute shit so no "Death Star" is going in my rig. I probably won't screw with the bios anytime soon either, I just want to get it rolling again and fully assembled as close to original as I can possibly get it. UPDATE So I finally figured out why the video wasn't working on this devkit, it was "Coma Console" status and I fixed it by soldering a jumper wire from the cap at C6R3 to resistor point R7R2 at point A18 This guide was very helpful in troubleshooting it on page 74 http://adriancallaghan.co.uk/wp-content/downloads/Guides/XBOX_REPAIR_GUIDE.pdf Definitely worth saving to disk if anyone still tinkers with these consoles. Now that I have a splash screen and nothing else I'll go to get a running dvd drive for it next right? Then get a hard drive, and load superdisk and attempt a unlock/lock to itso that it can be usable for this system.
  21. And here I was just thinking they were down for maintenance... =\
  22. You probably could as USB 1.0 for the SNES, the others highly doubtful; however, with those cartridge hacks that will accept an SD card, you could re-wire them to be an internal mod with the SD port on the side of the console, kinda like the mods the guy with the Fusion Genesis did. Since it's also a cartridge, if you knew enough about electronics design, you could make a USB upgrade on a cart, but the cart would have more shit on it than the actual console did in order to make it work and you'd most likely need a larger power supply for it to run. Consider this: Homebrew Hacks made a Commodore C=64 run at speeds of a 486-DX 2 66 and the cpu on the commodore was only like 6MHZ from the get with only 640KB of RAM and they expanded it to 16MB with onboard NIC and CD-ROM. Just saying, and that was a 10-15 year technology difference. It really depends on how open the hardware is to modification in order for it to be possible.
