Possible to rip game directly to ConnectX folder?

Recommended Posts

Hello

I have ConnectX successfully setup, including write permission granted. I'm trying to rip a game directly to my PC/ConnectX folder which will then avoid having to FTP it separately. I've tried this via File Manager, but the paste option is greyed out when I try to paste to the ConnectX folder.

I've noted that when you delete a ConnectX game via Aurora the actually game and it's folder is deleted PC, so I imaged writing direct to the ConnectX folder in this way would also be possible, but hit a wall here. If unable to do via this way, is there any other homebrew I can use to rip directly to shared PC folder please?

One last thing, within Aurora File Manager, is is possible to select ALL files and or folders at once instead of having to press 'X' to select individually one by one please?

Thank you

Anyone please? An unusual amount of discs are failing to copy. Discs are 100% fine, no scratches.

"Paste Error

Any error occurred while copying selected files(s)

Read log for more info"

I read log, but it doesn't give any info regarding the failed files. Even when the copy process reaches 100%, I am still often presented with this message.

1. Is this message correct then? If so how can I see the reasons why copy failed and the exact files that failed to copy please?

2. Also as per first post, is it not possible to copy directly to either ConnectX or other shared folder on PC?

3. Is it possible to select ALL files and or folders at once instead of having to press 'X' to select one by one?

4. Is there another more reliable way of copy discs to hard drive?

Thank you

1. Can you check the debug.log aswell as debug.log.last or whatever it's name is, and pastebin them for me so i can take a closer look?

2. I'm not sure if ConnectX is readonly or read/write, i would assume it's readonly as it's meant for emulating the DVD drive essentially...

3. Yes, press and hold X and go down :)

4. Not using Aurora, there is F3/FSD which have a direct copy function, but it's basically the same as Aurora's except you don't have to select everything yourself...

Hi Swizzy! Good to hear from you.

As mentioned when you delete a ConnectX games directly from Aurora, it deletes it completely, so not only from 360, but also from PC. I therefore assumed it has read/write privileges, so thought it would also be possible to rip game directly to PC?

I discovered I can press and hold X while pressing down, but when there are hundreds of files this can still take a while. It resorts to frantic button pressing like I was playing track & field again! :) Wondered then if it's possible to 'select all'? If not perhaps a suggestion for future release, OR even just being able to hold down button so that it automatically scrolls down.

By ripping game directly from 360 disc drive via FTP to PC, I'm able to rip the very games that failed via Aurora copy/paste method. No errors and all files transferred first time which confirms there is no issue with the disc or drive. This method however is painfully slow with transfer speeds only topping 3Mb/s. It's much quicker to rip to 360's internal HDD and then FTP at full speed from there, that is for those games that rip successfully. Here's a log as requested showing end of Aurora 'Reading titles' from boot, me selecting files to copy from disc, pasting to HDD and subsequently the failing...

Any ideas what the issue could be please? Is it a bug? As said this same disc FTP just find directly from 360 disc drive to PC, as is the case with all others that failed via copy/paste method, so surely can't be a disc issue can it?

I'm not sure what the cause of the problem is, but the error code you're getting is 23, which means ERROR_CRC, what that means exactly i can't say at the top of my head, i'll talk to the other developers and see if they've got any ideas

Below you'll find the section that told me this :)

Thanks Swizzy. I think the issue many just be with my 360 drive being picky with reading certain discs. Could the ERROR_CRC be related to reading issues? It's a Jasper console so pretty old and while drive hasn't had much use, lasers will always degrade over time resulting in reading issues I guess.

Does anyone know, when ripping via Imgburn or XBC, if there is an issue with particular file/area of the disc, will it fail or would it skip area without warning? I found my direct FTP from 360 disc drive to PC as explained above wasn't solution as it first appeared to be. On closer inspection I found that while all the files transferred 'successfully' with no errors reported, some of those files had not transferred in full, ie incomplete file size.

I was surprised at this as I thought FTP program would highlight such an error, but I'm tried several different ones including FlashFXP, Filezilla and CuteFTP and none of them picked up on errors, but sure enough the same files failed to transfer in full. I only noticed this after ripping quite a few games this way, so will need to start over using Imgburn or XBE, therefore want to be sure that if there is an issue with the disc Imgburn/XBC will notify, and not just skip problems as experienced with FTP?

I used to have issues transferring Valve games over FTP. All others seemed fine, but Valve's just wouldn't play after the transfer. Connected the hdd to my computer and transferred directly and they worked fine. Now I transfer all games directly and only ever transfer GOD/DLC over FTP.

your errors suggest a failing HDD.. FlashFXP always tells me if something error'd out.. or it get's stuck on a file.. ect.. or it could just be a bad backup you have..

Nah definitely not hard drive issue and disc is 100% OK as ripped perfectly via PC using Xbox Backup Creator. This is quite an unusually situation though because I was ripping from directly from 360's disc drive to PC and it was not just FlashFXP that failed to pick up on file size discrepancy. The issue ultimately appears to be with weak 360 disc drive.

As described above when transferring via Aurora copy/paste, Aurora will report failing, but the same cannot be said for FTP as I assumed it would, and therefore when it didn't give any warnings I wrongly concluded that rip was successfully when in fact it wasn't. I've never experienced this before, because like you, FlashFXP has always warned of errors from the usually hard drive to hard drive transfer. Just something about ripping from 360 disc drive (that's struggling) over network to a PC that bamboozles FTP programs.

ok.. let me re-phrase.. EVEN THO you rip it fully.. the back up you have can be faulty, with incomplete files..(bad rip/bad burn) lol.. but yeah.. side tracked.. the drive's laser can be going bad.. but again, with "backed up games" you shouldn't be using that drive anyhow.. as the XB drives are only used with 0800 firmware.. lol ANY drive can read backups in XBC.. only LEGIT games use the 0800 firmware hooked up to PC.. so that's what COULD be an issue also.. as it's made to read ACTUAL games.. not backed up ones.. lol..

Copy/pastings backups via Aurora doesn't always fail, only with some discs. The majority rip just fine, and the original rips are all 100% perfect, or as perfect as can be as passed ABGX, so no issue there.

Sorry I should make clear that this is not a 0800 firmware drive I'm using connected to PC. Disc was in xbox 360 disc drive. Xbox 360 is connected to PC via network. I FTP from xbox 360 disc drive via FlashFXP to PC.

You mentioned that a 'successfully' rip could still be bad, which reminds me of one of my (many) questions above. When ripping via Imgburn or XBC, if there is an issue with particular file/area of the disc, will it fail or would it skip area without warning? If it were to skip, I assume I would be able to identify bad rips as the ISO would fail ABGX correct?

ahh.. well then.. that could be an issue within itself.. as your network could be causing the issues.. why go to such an elaborate way to do things?? lol.. pop disc in drive on PC.. takes out the XB completely?? no network and such needed..

but again, WHY the elaborate way?? curious..

Edit: and BTW.. abgx doesn't check EVERY file on the disc.. just throwing that out there... this is how ISO mods are able to be made/played on live. case in point.. the dev menu on Dead Island.. lol

Haha, I know I know an elaborate way indeed, and no good reason other than I thought I could rip directly to ConnectX folder, which then lead to this bazaar way of attempted rip. Doing things the easy way would be far to easy!  :smiling:

Ah OK I thought a rip had to be perfect in everyone for it to pass ABGX, and even though I never go online, I used this (incorrectly it would seem) to verify a rip was ok.

So other than game not working properly, which might not be the case until last level, how do you actually tell a bad rip then? Would imgburn or XBC not stop or warn if it failed to read part of the disc?

well if you are using RGH's.. running through abgx isn't necessary.. lol as that just makes it pass XBL tests (partially).. imgburn would tell you if there is an error.. i dunno about XBC.. but it should.. as it has thrown out that something has had an error in the past for me.. as couldn't read..

only absolute way to tell.. is have the actual game.. and verify off of that.. as if you don't have the original, then you can't verify the correct file completely.. lol

hell.. even some originals are messed up.. or give false errors.. Forza 4 anyone?? lol.. people got banned for AP checks failing with that game.. even tho it was 100% legit lololol..

Ok thanks. Good to know then that Imgburn will warn if error, plus like the fact that I can run two instances to enable rip two games at a time.

I never knew about Forza 4 legit games getting banned! That's crazy! I've never really play much online, so that side of gaming passes me by, although I recently setup LiNK and enjoyed a bit of COD Black Ops II last night, so might see you on there at some point if you play? I was dead most of the time as haven't played COD since the first Modern Warfare, but still enjoyed it.

I'm off to get some shut eye now. Thanks for all your help tonight, it's been very much appreciated.

cyclic redundancy checks (CRC) Are due to bad blocks,if your sure the hdd is fine  then the discs you burnt are most likely poor quality or they were burnt at too fast a speed, tho the latter shows up straight away when attempting to use them.Rule of thumb burn at 1/2 the rated speed,i usually go for around 2x or 4x on 8x media. However on 8gb discs i don't burn, seen to many posts at afterdawn over the years regarding failed burns even with verbs (vebatim dvd's) regardless if from Singapore or not

both xbc & imgburn will tell you what blocks are having issues,i recall it being in the main window.Imgburn creates a log for reading as well

edit: bad reads can also be caused by how the discs are kept in storage, ideally away from light & in a case or pocket & upright.Sometimes using cold water & soap on hands to clean the disc will work tho this is with using the 0800 drive connected to the pc & read speed set to slow really slow.Don't be concerned with removing finger prints after gently rubbing disc with soapy hands, just rinse & pad disc on a towel, don't wipe it can create scratches

This is commonly a issue with the transfermode selected, one should ALWAYS use "binary", never "auto" or "ascii" (auto can fall back to ascii which have 7 out of 8 bits, causing corruption)

tbh, i don't understand the use for implementing support for ascii transfers in the first place, you still send full 8 bits >_<

Actually, you're wrong... ABGX360 checks the whole Game partition CRC value...

But yeah, the disc itself isn't signed, not all files on the disc is signed either... changing a configuration file isn't going to break a signature ;)

Well of course you have the technical aspects.. Lol.. But yeah still kind of pointless for him to use if he isnt going on live.. Lol or if he did the "truncated" method.. Or however you spell it haha I'm tired..

Yeah, binary is a little hidden in Transmit. It was set to auto, so that's most likely what happened. Looks like it remembers Binary/Auto/ascii per connection.

I guess I could always remove ascii file extensions (in settings), then Transmit wouldn't associate them and should always run binary. Usually the only thing I change is PASV mode, cause the Original Xbox doesn't like it.

Either way, only takes a second to grab my hdd and connect it directly to my computer, plus I benefit from higher speed transfers.

If uncertain about a ISO being correct, ABGX360 is your saviour as it'll check the important bits for you, if the CRC isn't a match, the iso is bad =)
