  1. Here's a list of the root level files and folders from disc1: Name content default.xex xbox360b.rpf common.rpf xbox360a.rpf install_music.wma nxeart common disc1.rsn As you suggest those four files are three levels down in the content folder. I can easily move them to the HDD as you suggest but what do I do with the other files and folders from disc1? Just leave them in the Disc1 folder on the USB drive? I would "assume" that I should just leave them on the USB drive so it can get the default.xex off the USB drive. Is that correct? I appreciate the assistance. Outofwork
  2. Thanks for the info. outofwork
  3. Apologies if this question is answered somewhere else but if it is I can't find it. GTA V cycles through the different characters moving right to left (loading shown on screen) and then left to right and then back to right to left, etc. in a never ending loop. Does Disc 1 need to be installed to the HDD instead of residing on an external USB drive? Thanks, outofwork
  4. Do any of the latest or soon to be released games require the newest dashboard from MS? Also, aren't the TUs cumulative so if you update the latest you get all the updates from the previous ones? I assume (?) the ability to pick which TU allows you to not download the latest JIC there is an issue with it not working. Is that correct? Thanks, outofwork
  5. After scanning the messages related to this update I have a few basic questions. What? More basic questions even though I have done this several times over the years? Yes, Because I am beginning to suffer from ACRS and I don't do these updates very often. 1) This new process appears to eliminate the need for XE_Build_GUI and the need to go get the $Systemupdate 16537 from MS. Is that correct? 2) It also appears that in the future these updates are performed almost (?) automatically if the "updserv (sp?) option is enabled. Is that correct? 3) While watching the install video I saw "Formatting the HDD Partition". That concerns me a bit because I don't really know all the details of what is installed on the HDD. Is it completed reformatting the HDD and applying all the updates, NAND updating etc? Sorry for the continuing basic questions but like others I certainly do not want to hose something up that has worked so perfectly in the past. Thanks, outofwork
  6. Tell me that you're not serious about the disbanding of TeamFSD. I haven't be on the site in quite a while and was stunned to see this announcement. I understand that all good things must come to an end but I have a couple of questions regarding the future given the announcement. 1) Will there be no further updates to F3, XEBUILD, Dashboard, etc? 2) I would have thought that with the XBox One coming out you guys would welcome a new challenge and be chomping at the bit to get to it. 3) F3 Rev 775 appears to be an optional update based on my quick read. Is that correct? I can't even begin to express my sincere appreciation for what you guys have contributed to the XBox 360 scene over the years. I'm sure there are hundreds, probably thousands, of people who have benefitted from what you guys have done. Thanks, outofwork
  7. As I recall before I got into the RGH scene I had a connector that attached to the HDD1 XBox hard drive connector and attached to the PC via USB. I wonder if that will work? Or, are you talking about removing the hard drive from the HDD1 enclosure and then attaching it to the PC? That seems to be a bit of a PITA. Is Clonezilla readily available? Let me know how this works out and IF you get a complete, restorable image copy. Given the sophistication of the folks that created FSD and several of the other utilities I am really surprised that someone hasn't created an easy to use foolproof method of image copying and restoring HDD1. This seems to be a glaring exposure of risk. There must be something that I am missing about this issue because on the surface at least the lack of such a piece of code/method is illogical. Thanks, outofwork
  8. Clonezilla? Is that something that runs on the XBox 360 itself OR do you have to remove HDD1 and attach it to something else? I've only got a 320 GB drive for HDD1 while I have a 2 TB external USB for my games and XBLA. Thanks, outofwork
  9. What determines if it goes to the Content folder or Cache? Many thanks for the info. outofwork
  10. Is there a way to make a complete image copy of HDD1 for backup purposes? Can Connectx be used to do this? What I am looking for is similar to making an image copy of the C drive on my PC that I make once a week for backup purposes? In other words, if I get a failure that renders HDD1 unusable can I simply buy another drive and restore a backup image of HDD1 that I previously made? I can map the console to my PC and copy "most" folders on HDD1. As I recall the last time I tried this there were one or two folders on HDD1 that I couldn't see. Do I need to somehow set permissions on HDD1 so that I could see them? How would I do that? Thanks, outofwork
  11. Are TUs cumulative? For example, I just downloaded the TUs for Battlefield 3 and it downloaded TUs 3, 2 and 1 with 3 logically being the most current. I would normally just select TU 3 to be active and ignore TUs 2 and 1. But, can I just delete TUs 2 and 1? There isn't any sense in wasting that space. I have also noticed that when I download some TUs for other games that I may see TUs 5, 3 and 1 for a game. Does that simply mean that TUs 4 and 2 were removed because of problems? Also when downloading TUs why doesn't it just download the latest TU if they are cumulative? Why does it download all of them? When updating FSD as I just did is there a way to save all of the TUs that I previously downloaded on the prior version of FSD or are they automatically saved as part of the install process? Thanks, outofwork
  12. May I humbly suggest adding the following sentence to end of step 7? "You may have to try to play a game before the update dialog box appears." Thanks, outofwork
  13. I am interested in the RGH Phat. Please send me a private message with the details. Thanks, outofwork
  14. Thanks for the feedback. Will this program make a complete image or just copies of the data folders and files? I don't know if the XBox 360 boots from the HDD1 if a hard drive is present. If it does then one would think that something like a MBR exists. But, I "think" that there are just folders and data on HDD1 and the console boots via a chip. Thanks, outofwork
  15. Apologies but I am missing something. When I boot the console it of course goes right into FSD and ignores the USB stick with the $$ystemupdate folder. It's almost as if Dashlaunch wasn't installed when XeBuild ran. I thought that it would get the latest one. I remember reading that it said not to check it in the FSD installer. I can't find Dashlaunch so I obviously screwed something up. Is there an easy way to boot up and have it go into the retail dash and not load FSD? I am missing something very basic here. When I am in what I think is the retail dash I can see the icon for the USB stick in the upper right but it seems to be ignoring it. How do I make it run the $$ystemupdate on the USB stick? Thanks, outofwork
  16. I would like to make an image copy of HDD1 for backup purposes along the lines of an Acronis or Norton Ghost restorable image? How can I do that? Thanks, outofwork
  17. The update for 16202 was so easy it was hard to believe. Two questions remain: 1) I have lost my avatar, all I have is a pure white outline even though the $Systemupdate was updated apparently as part of the XeBuild process. I tried to update the $Systemupdate and got a message indicating that the console was up-to-date. What did I miss? I did download a 16202.pirs file but it seems, based on the console being up-to-date message, that it is unnecessary. 2) How do I get into DashLaunch to view the options? Thanks, outofwork
  18. I just bought, for $20 from Best Buy (a one day sale), the Microsoft Wireless Speed Wheel that sells for $60 in the Microsoft store. I know it's kind of hokey but for $20 I figured that I would give it a shot. The question is the "Wireless Speed Wheel Software Disc" that came with it. Of course I did not install the software as it instructed me to do but I just tried the Speed Wheel. It seems to work okay but I am wondering what is really on the disc and is it necessary for some of the functions to operate correctly? I am getting force feedback and it seems to work okay. Does anyone know what is on the disc (hardware/software drivers?) and would I have wiped out anything for FSD if I had installed it? Thanks, outofwork
  19. GREAT tut wabashman. Every time I go through one of these Dashboard updates I learn a little bit more about the process and what is where and why. As always I do have a few questions: is it necessary to reinstall FSD after one of these Dashboard updates if you are running the current version of FSD? is it always necessary to reinstall the avatar and kinect support after one of these updates? Which file do I use? Does Dashlaunch actually launch FSD? If it does why is Dashlaunch necessary? Why couldn't FSD just be launched via an intial xex file? Where is the Microsoft Dashboard actually stored? Can I assume that the NAND is used to store the code that via a timing backdoor invokes Dashlaunch which in turn launches FSD? Many thanks for taking the time to answer these basic questions, outofwork

    F3 crashing

I did that a few minutes ago prior to seeing your message. One other related scenario associated with the cover downloading. I could individually refresh the artwork at the individual game level and that seemed to work okay.
  21. Brief update - I just booted up with no crashes and accurate update weather info. No idea what's causing the problem.
  22. I have experienced almost exactly the same problem. I reinstalled F3 and the same exact problem continues. I put up the weather at boot up time and the information is not current. There is no weather info. It's just the weather box with no current weather data in it. Ot starts to go get new covers for the new games I just added and F3 crashes. It's as if it can't see an Internet connection although it's working perfectly because when I reinstalled F3 it immediately went out and got all the covers. One other strange thing. When I go to XBox games and it shows all the covers the left to right or right to left scrolling is much slower than it normally is when F3 hadn't crashed just before. Do you want me to send my logs as well? outofwork

    F3 crashing

F3 is now crashing every time when it first boots up. It was trying to download new covers for a few games that I had just added. Every time it crashed I say "Try to Continue" and the number of items (new covers) to be downloaded decreases by one or two. It did that several times and the number of items is staying at 1 now. I may just reinstall F3 it to see if the problem goes away. Damned strange. F3 was rock solid prior to this problem which now happens every time I boot up.
  24. Did you Save the game paths when you created them? Also, you may need to set the scan level higher depending on your folder structure.
  25. I appreciate the feedback. It's slowly starting to sink in. Thanks, outofwork
