croize 36 Posted May 3, 2013 I dont understand this with usb 2.0 / 3.0 , My friend has usb 3.0 with a " good " harddrive he says , Mine is 2.0, How does my harddrive that is 100 dollars cheaper beat his speed ? :S Did not find any suitable category. somtimes speed goes up to 700-800 mb/s
Griff 7 Posted May 3, 2013 Maybe because the cpu/ram in your pc is better and he might also be using his usb 3.0 drive in a usb 2.0 port which doesn't offer any benefit over a usb 2.0 drive unless he's using 3.0 with 3.0.

thinkjoey 10 Posted May 3, 2013 Using a usb 3.0 on a usb 2.0 port does increase the speed, but not will not top out unless being used in a 3.0 port. It is also possible that the drive is so fragmented that it is affecting his transfer speed. I suggest degragging the drive and then trying.
croize 36 Posted May 4, 2013 So your saying , If i buy a external usb 3.0 drive instead , My speed would raise ??

BL4K3Y 96 Posted May 4, 2013 As above, if a computer only supports USB 2.0, a USB 3.0 drive will only read/write at USB 2.0 speeds.
