  1. it was easy in the respects that l just pressed what l was told when l was told to lol. however l had trouble verifying the CPU key with the program, but l guess that means l have to do that by Lan? l tried to do it by wireless, that said l had a backup of the key anyways but l had to use dashlaunch to grab another copy of the key (just to verify the one l had on system matched the xbox). that said it would be nice for a faq on all the options and what some of the things mean, being somewhat techy when it comes to the computer side of things it would be interesting to know some of the technical things some of the other options l didnt use meant tho its more curiosity than the need to know. one thing that would be interesting would be a mailing list l could sign up to so l know when the program is updated still, again much appreciated for all the work.
  2. another interesting bit of info, many thanks for clearing that up Swizzy and thanks for making the program as well after actually doing it (albeit slowly making sure l didnt mess things up) it was easier than expected).
  3. l got bored and decided to try flashing my nand, and l think lve managed it without any trouble including installing the avatars usinf XeBuild FSD reports my dash is version 2.0.16767.0 now (previous according to FDS was 2.0.16547.0). lm assuming that when l new dash comes out l just go over to microsoft download the dash file then pop it into the files folder on xeBuild then follow the readme instructions again? or does the person who makes the program just update xebuild every time with the relevant updates meaning it would be easier just to download xeBuild again?
  4. well l guess l'll just play it by ear, tho tbh my last dash update was around march going by the date on the files l have backed up on system, so l may leave it until l find a game that doesnt work until l update my dash, tho l will likely need to do my avatars, weill wait on getting the new controller to do that as currently my current wired one doesnt stay connected due to a break in the cable.
  5. the one thing that confuses me about the tutorial is that it mentions nothing about using the download dash version files or does that just happen automatically? the same with the 1bkey thing or is that something l dont need to touch? tbh, considering lve only just got the xbox working again l dont want to mess anything up, and should l mess up l'll definitely loose the xbox :/ after all lm no modder lol.
  6. lve downloaded the latest version, is there an up to date simple tutorial on how to use it? and create the relevant files, because the one l linked to doesnt include information on sorting avatars etc.
  7. lm just refreshing up as the last time l did my nand ld downloaded a very useful file (which took me all day to find :/ but pretty much did everything automatically) but anywho l get the general premise of this tutorial. basically l downloaded this: http://www.xpgamesaves.com/topic/81690-tutupdate-your-rgh-jtag-to-dash-16547-in-1-2-minutes-no-flash-drive-or-file-transfers-needed/ (l believe) it basically had pretty much everything set automatically to go and l just ran a *.bat file which ran the commands. however should l need to update my nand again is there any way it can be done automatically with a trusted program that will actually run? l think l did try jrunner but back when l tried it, it was complaining about my system being 64bit. suffice to say l just want to be careful as lm still not comfortable updating my nand and was hoping there was something that could make it simpler by allowing me to do it without getting overly technical as to be quite honest l have no clue how to sort out the files especially seeing as it would be useful to know how to both install avatars and the dash at the same time.
  8. guess it wasnt what l thought it was lol, just ran it on the drive and its showing as good, tho annoyingly l decided to try it out on my PC and see what my drives were up to and lve got 2 cautions on different drives :/
  9. actually my console is a phat, that said the few times since l got the bits to sort things out to have the drive externally l had not received any E79 errors, tho before they were sort of sporadically turning up. still theres no reason l cant test the drive with what you recommended to see if that picks up something the WD tool didnt. l'll run a few short tests before l go to bed then run longer ones later.
  10. hmm, that might limit me on large games, got pish all space on the 64gb thumb drive.. that said technically l might be able to use the other HD as an external memory unit. long story short lve just finished testing the 320gb drive that was originally connected to the xbox.. lve spent a good 4 hours on it, grabbed the Western digital tool (Data Life Guard Diagnostic tool) and ran the quick and extended tests in full and both gave me passing grades on the drive. suffice to say lm going to pop it in the external caddy lve still got a backup of both dashes (seems l had to clear the data dir on each drive lve copied the files to) which means l could use the SSD for things like DLC content etc especially if its as large as the Skyrim DLCs. either way its useful to know, the only question is where the problem is considering the drive passed both short and extended tests, hopefully it wont affect me again since lm going to try use the drive externally.
  11. THANKYOU!!! l deleted everything within the fsd directory and lm finally into the dash without problem. this leaves me with one question, lm going to be adding an external drive in a usb caddy in addition to the usb drive will there be issues if they are both treated as normal usb devices? or should l just stick to having 1 usb device attatched at one time while the rest are either memory/usb memory units as lm going to be using a usb hub as well which l know works (its passive and powered so if l need extra power l have it), the main reason l ask is because l assume game saves have to go on a UsbMu or xbox formatted drive (not sure if its the same for TU updates) otherwise lm slightly pushed for space until lve tested and seen if the old 320gb drive has problems or not.
  12. that helped! (sort of) l popped fsd (which l copied from the hdd where it was originally installed) onto a thumb drive formatted as fat32 it finally tried to load the dash!!! tho it crashed as it tried to load LOL could this be down to the fact its not a new installation and just copied from the old hard drive which may have problems, planning on running it through seatools or something to see if the drive was failing and maybe run it as a external if it is now. this is the settings l made to the launch.ini is there anything l can do to get it to load and not crash that l might have missed? tho l guess l could reinstall fsd, lve taken a quick gander but can someone link me to a readme on how to or rather where to inject fsd so l can use the nxe to install fsd if its going to be easier than just trying to get my older installation working? also which version would be best to install as lve seen a few differnt version in the fsd forum.
  13. well it worked before l changed the drive to a usb memory stick.. as previously mentioned l was getting E79 errors from the drive in fact ld gotten a few in a row last time l tried booting. strangely tho, l tried the drive again as l was having trouble finding the right setting in the launch.ini and so l tried putting in the old drive and managed to get FSD up but when l updated the usb thumb drive with the label it was under on fsd which seemed to be UsbMu0 (or at least thats where the files l copied to the thumb drive are located. fyi this is my launch.ini contents: but destpite fsd saying the drive is under that l can get it to sporatically work from the hdd, tho the reason lm trying to get it to run from a thumb drive is just in case there is a hardware issue l can get around if its not the drive (as lm planning on running intensive tests on it once lve freed it up, that way l can use it externally and have more games space. in fact would it mess things up if l opened up fsd using the hdd loaded dashlaunch and pointed it to the usb thumb drive or would it still try and put a launch.ini on the hdd but just point to the installation l copied to the thumb drive? because l want to do away with the hdd if that makes sense.
  14. tried the setting but didnt make any difference.
  15. basically lm having issues getting the dash working again. long story short l had issues (E79 error) with my old hard drive, l havent had it since its been removed and lve decided to install the dash to a thumb drive (and have games on an external. l managed to copy off all the content on my old xbox hard drive and decided to copy the dash over as well everything seems to of copied over fine (gamesaves etc are loading fine on the basic xbox dash), however lve had problems trying to point the launch.ini.. lve tried it manually but cant seem to find the right setting lve tried the following usb0 and LUsb1/2 but l still get the basic dash, l also tried running the fsd disk but it wont seem to load so l was wondering if there were other ways to get dashlaunch running or if there are any settings lm missing in order to get my xbox running again.
  16. l forgot about that one, was thinking about copying the entire content of the drive (after formatting it with the xbox of course to set it up to spec) theoretically l shouldnt have to set up FSD if l just copy everything over. l decided to also boot my xbox once a day when l have a chance, the last two times l booted the xbox from cold (when it was disconnected between use) l received E79 errors so so today l decided to do exactly the same thing but without the hard drive connected, l will do the same tomorrow but so far without the drive connected it hasnt (at this second at least) produced an E79, given that it twice in the row had such an error from a cold boot my guess is there is a likelihood its the drive but l guess l wont know until l replace the drive and run more in depth tests on the old drive once its been replaced.
  17. just want to add an update. lve found that booting from cold (as l disconnect the power when not in use, as stated in my previous post) l get E79 errors once booted and rebooting the console doesnt seem to produce any further errors. lm assuming the issue is hard drive related so lm planning on purchasing a 500gb 2.5" and replace the one currently inside the xbox 360 enclosure then reinstall the dash. one thing l did notice tho was it was installed upside down, tho l can remedy that by reworking the cable a little. in any case its going to be maybe 2/3 weeks till l can sort out anything so just wanted to see what others thoughts on my course of action are.. else if that doesnt fix it lm going to need to find a trustworthy modder, hopefully tho l can get hold of the one that originally did mine tho lm not looking forward to the prospect of it being a hardware problem this would be the second xbox lve had a problem with (first one was taken out by a storm or a surge of some type.. but most likely down to the storm at the end of last summer). either way, apart from the games already on the current hard drive lve backed up all my saves and profiles onto a memory unit l had spare, all thats left is to change the drive, that being said is there a way to transfer the drives content from one drive to another with my computer? no biggie if there isnt as l have all the ISOs backed up but it would have saved time.
  18. to be honest, l doubt its wiring. mainly because lve had this RGH1 console since mid-summer last year and. now admittedly lm not much of a gamer but when l get into a game l play it from start to finish. prior to the update ld played the last two Assassins Creed games likely spending a good 4 days on each play time (likely in 6 hour sessions). after the dash update l did a couple of weeks back because l wanted to play a newer game called Thief l played for maybe 2/3 days in similar length sessions as above with no problems (before the dash update l kept on getting sent to the dashboard every time l tried to play however l didnt have problems playing after the update). with regards to the E79 error like l said it didnt happen after the nand reflashes l did upon your recommendation.. in fact like l said l was going to test the differences between the files to see if there could be a correlation. l rebooted the console after experiencing it and it when to the dash normally as it usually does.. l rebooted 3 times and couldnt produce it. so my guess is it could be the hard drive going by what lve seen, l must admit it is noisier than ld expect it and admittedly it was an ebay purchase, was contemplating getting a 500gb 2.5" then running a full diagnostic on it once replaced, tho lm wondering if there is a way to clone the drive tho l can live with copying everything back since l have all the backed up iso's. (fyi l disconnect the power of my xbox when not in use as l lost my falcon at the end of last summer when it got stormy my guess was power surge so l dont suppose disconnecting could cause and issue as it always starts from cold).
  19. ok, l did test the new extractor, seemed much faster l'll be using it from now on thats for sure. anywho, l came upon something interesting. l booted up the xbox as l was going to copy the newly extracted games and reupload them to see if there were any differences, essentially l wanted to see if any files were corrupted by running them though an sfv shecker (as l hashed all the files l extracted from the iso to reupload, so essentially l was going to download and reupload). but anywho thats not the point, when l flashed the console l restarted and booted a few times following your instructions. however first chance lve had to check after a day and l encountered an E79 error before l got to FSD l dont even think it tried to sign in, could it still be a hard drive issue?
  20. not sure when l will be able to test it, as lm pretty busy over the next week or two. however, just curious and a random thought but l had been using trainers (l tend to find them for most games mainly for ammo type cheats) could they cause issues? and maybe it might be worth looking into dashlaunch settings.. l cant remember but wasnt there settings in there that handled errors? maybe if l turned it on it might handle problems differently to give an indication on where possible issues are occurring. (tho thinking about the first time l experienced a freeze it happened when trying to return to the dash, the second one was while playing a game tho like l said could trainers also be a factor as l believe l was using one. which was a retrobyte one l believe).
  21. l couldnt test the games l had issues with on the old nand due to needing the latest dash, but the flashing part both reverted and current firmware seems to be no issue. if it is a game error are there any better softwares to extract the game with as l use xbox backup creator image tool to extract, l like it because it tells me what the size of the extract will be as well has dir/file numbers are so l can match the sizes. like l said tho it confuses me because Thief plays fine but the two others seem to cause the console to freeze.
  22. dumped and reinserted the nand as asked in the original post.
  23. yes it does have a built in 512 memory unit.
  24. so do a full dump then reinsert and post log? not at home at the moment, not sure when l'll have time to do it. however did those serial numbers help?
  25. l'll see what l can do, tho l do have a nand dump prior to the update which l made. tho what confuses me the most if the fact that l had no issues with Thief or Castlevania 2 (the error l got on castlevania didnt freeze the xbox but seemed a common issue on both the xbox and playstation versions of the game which allegedly has something to do with save file corruption so waiting on TU to fix that issue). is there any way to test extracted games for consistency? l managed to get the hard drive accessible to scan with seatools via my usb to sata adapter ran both quick tests and found no issues lm assuming it tested the smart as well either way it passed both tests. heres the make and model numbers etc (the ones l could find at least) MFR date: 2009-9-25 product ID: 01592621227269793905 with regards to the nand would extracting the nand using your method then putting it back cause any issues cause problems? as l dont want to mess things up even more if its a problem related to nand if there are other ways to test things as lm not extremely knowledgeable about it at the moment. and dont wish to mess things up (at least until l know the original modder is about again if the problem is traceable via other means)
