  1. Hate to say it but graphical issues of that nature are usually due to the gpu seperating from the mobo... aka the rrod. It's fine if you don't want to believe me, and I'm not going to argue about this or defend this, I'm the only one who has answered you and this is the most likely reason you are having these specific graphical issues that apparently persist through the dash into games and even the xbox dash.

  3. according to the E3 wensite and forum 4.55 is the ODE blocker. So if you really only need 4.50 you should be fine. http://www.e3-tech.net/index.asp for better help you might try here http://e3forums.net/index.php?board=23.40 in situations with ODEs and unhacked systems your only 2 options are update or go without. There is no way to fix the game to work on lower fw without peek/poke

  5. Cobra ODE News - Update The much anticipated 1.6 firmware update is now available for download. The biggest feature of this update is the addition of the new auto-eject feature. You can now switch games without rebooting and without ejecting discs. All from the comfort of your couch. The new auto-eject feature does not require any modifications to the ODE, nor does it require any new accessories or soldering, it is now available to all ODE users, from all models, with the simple update of your Cobra ODE. We have also added periodical polling of the HDD to prevent hard drives from going to sleep mode which made some games freeze if they had been paused for a while. The HDD polling can be disabled or configured from the cobra.cfg file. When Cobra ODE was first released, we had seen a huge amount of positive feedback, although many users had two major concerns, the first being the use of homebrew to achieve game selection, and the second being the need to reboot or eject discs in order to switch games. With the Cobra ODE browser support which was added in v1.5 and the auto-eject feature added in v1.6, we have resolved both of these concerns for our users. Today, the Cobra ODE looks like a brand new device with a completely new user experience, which we think will make most of you happy. Enjoy Tortuga Cove's updated review. Cobra has released their 1.6 MCU update which added a couple impressive features. 1. No longer required to reset or eject the system on game change. To do this you press the PS button then navigate to the disc icon on the XMB press triangle and select "remove disc" which takes you back to the XMB and enables a new game selection. (note: For superslim 4xxx model users, the “Remove disc†option is not available in the XMB, you can enable the “manager.on_reboot=1†configuration option in the cobra.cfg file and reboot the console or you can open and close the drive cover to switch back to manager mode.) 2. No longer requires a homebrew app launch to select games. So today I downloaded all the required files to update the ODE to latest MCU fw and then ran the required "genps3extra 1.1" The "genps3extra 1.1" app is a required PC app that enables game selection via the XMB, via a custom generated manager it builds based on the iso list in your game directory. To be absolutely honest I found the instructions in the manual requiring how to use this a little confusing, so let me break it down. When they say select the "COBRA_ODE_BROWSER" directory they mean the folder that comes in the genps3extra 1.1 archive. Then you select the COBRA folder on your USB drive. This must be done every time the ISO list changes on the drive. A small thing worth noting is the new manager is kinda hefty in size with mine taking 334mb. Upon testing it functioned exactly as they said with the game loading seconds after selecting, and a flawless return to the XMB upon selecting remove disc from XMB after mounting. These are great additions and made a good product even better. I stand firmly behind my previous review stating this is a good hardware solution for people who either want ntfs game mounting support on cfw or people on OFW 3.56 with no downgrade options.   6. I know many people aren't fans of ODEs, but here is our review. First off Cobra ODE boasts a feature list of: Supports virtually all PS3's including previously "unbreakable" 2k5,3k and 4k systems! Homebrew now possible on previously "unbreakable" 2k5,3k and 4k systems! Play games on SEN in pass-through or emulation modes**! On screen selection of games through Cobra ODE manager in XMB Emulation or pass-through modes Advanced Smart Fusion AES encryption and decryption engine on board Fully updatable high speed FPGA's and high speed secure MCU on board Updatable via USB storage Expansion ports for future proofing Simple and easy to use High quality components used throughout Built at a high tech facility Solderless installation on FAT*** and SLIM (2xxx and 21xx) series Easy installation on 25xx,3xxx and 4xxx series Slim and Super Slim series consoles with QSB (quick solder board) Easy setup for PATA or SATA consoles Advanced software onboard and frequent free updates BD Movie support to follow (In a future update) PS1 and PS2 ISO support to follow (on BC consoles in a future update) PS3 BD game disc dumping on all PS3 consoles is supported and can be enabled through third party managers (dumping throughput will be improved in future updates) **We cannot guarantee the longevity of this feature owing to the use of homebrew app to achieve it. As you can see a couple of the features aren't yet working so I was unable to review those. Ok on to the actual review. Cobra sent me a sample to review, and I tinkered with it hard. It has a couple problems, but nothing that makes it awful or unusable, we'll get to those later. First off lets go over install: I installed this on a CECHA01 that was running 3.55.4 rebug rex cfw. On this console Cobra ODE is in fact plug and play. A minor issue is that the FCC ribbons they send in package are a bit too long, and require bending to make them work and taping to secure the extra lengths, also the ODE must be placed in the proper location or the ribbons can be knocked loose by the ridges coming off the underside of the top shell piece. The location in the install guide was actually a bit off for me, and I had to spend a while tinkering with it to get it installed properly. A warning: Just because the cobra is functioning doesn't mean its installed properly or securely. Double check your connections, then check them a third time just to be sure. Turn the consoles main power on but don't start the console and check the red led in the back while replacing the top shell. If the led goes out, the ODE board is in the wrong place, and is being moved by the shell panel. Furthermore, using the ODE in a unstable setup can cause freezing and other issues related to game play, I personally had a unstable install for a while and wasnt aware, when the game froze the system became unresponsive causing me to kill power at the switch at the back. When i turned the console back on, the file system on the internal hdd was corrupted beyond recovery and i lost all data on it. UNSTABLE CONNECTIONS ARE BAD MM'KAY! Now then, knowing 3K3Y supports GUID partitions (hard drives with larger then 2tb on a single partition) I tried one on cobra ODE, they are not supported. The ODE didn't see the hard drive at all. Since this is not a feature they advertise anyways, consider yourselves warned. A 2tb WD elements hard drive formatted to NTFS with default windows cluster sizes worked fine however. How it works: Cobra's main manager is not pretty, but fully functional. You insert the hard drive with the proper files in the proper directorys into the rear USB port on the ODE (this is all covered fully in the user's manual). If everything is functioning the led should turn green. Once it turns green your ready to play. Boot the console, and insert one of the many supported discs (a full list can be gotten from them and its quite massive and they support a lot of games.) I personally had at least 3 that I have owned for years, including the USA releases of "Resistance", "Resistance 2", and "Genji: Days of the Blade". Once you insert a supported disc, the disc icon should come up stating "Cobra Manager" unless the ODE is in pass through mode. Pick a game or homebrew that's been built to function as a .iso, and the manager will tell you to either "eject the disc or reboot the console." Do one of those 2 things and when you reach the XMB again the iso you picked is now the Disc icon on the XMB. Pretty simple, and you're now ready to enjoy the game you chose. Updating: Updating the ODE is simple, turn the console off at the main power switch on the back, wait 5 seconds and you just place the mcu file in the root of a compatible hdd or thumbstick. Insert the storage decive you used into the usb port on the back of the console and turn the main power back on. It will flash a series of lights if it sees the update file then go back to either solid red (if you only have the update file on it) or solid green (if its on the root of the storage device you keep the cobra ODE files located). If you update the console while the ODE is installed, (I updated to 4.46.1 rebug rex after installing the ODE) YOU MUST PLACE THE ODE INTO PASSTHOURGH MODE Failure to do so will cause the system update to fail with a error code related to the BD rom drive. That's it for the ODE itself. However another thing Cobra did, was release the libraries needed to compile other managers to work with it. People have already discussed Multiman as a alternative manager, But I'm going to discuss Eleganz released by KaKaRoTo. While his manager is also simple, it boasts one important feature. After selecting a game when the "eject or reboot" text comes up. Simply quit Eleganz via the xmb, and the console will reboot on its own. You are now ready to play. In the end, Cobra ODE is a nice functional product that does 1 very nice additional feature in allowing homebrew that doesn't rely on specific cfw syscalls to function on non-softmoddable ps3's. It's a bit sad not all boasted features are available now, but im sure they will be supported in later updates to the ODE. All in all this product is a good product, and while many will complain about the price. Its not much more expensive then other ODEs on the market and I like it. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to either save space on their internal hard drive and not have to split files for external, or looking to avoid compatibility issues with internal/external hard drives with games, or looking for a easy method to mod ofw 3.56+ consoles, that doesn't require hardware flashing and possibly remarrying the BD drive. ~igor242 (review was done on mcu update 1.2 and manager version 1.1) All links below link directly to Cobra's official webpage.   7. I think the hatred is people who have contributed nothing at all to anything, showing up out of the blue demanding the system change to fit your need's. LiNK is maintained in peoples spare time, as a hobby. As such it is always gonna be prone to downtime when errors occur as real life comes first. Furthermore adding a paywall defeats the entire purpose of link. so yea.... P.S. that whole VMware thing has about 0 chance of happening. It's not even possible as far as I know as to how LiNK works, and splintering the userbase is a lame idea anyways.
  8. You can buy the mod board by itself if you already have a 360 controller you want to use. On the 360 you have to solder that board to the controller. They also sell pre modded controllers. But I can't recommend you get either.
  9. Today I am reviewing Talismoons Wolf Controller 'Macros Mod Board' that also functions as a rapid fire mod. Wolf Controller Site (Please note: neither I nor any other staff of tortuga-cove support or condone cheating on xbox live, psn or any other online service. However what you do in your single player games is up to you) OK so for this review, I've decided that the best format is "The Good, The Bad The Ugly" Lets Start with the good. Wolf Controller boasts a feature list of: Talismoon Wolf Controller is the best of what rapid fire mods can offer: - Blue Tooth enabled : Log into your Wolf from any PC or Android device - Control over 17 buttons - Easy, drag and drop macro creation - Upload your macros to the Wolf and download them from the net - Record macros, live, in the game you are playing - Design how you want to swap macros, with the combination (or voice command) YOU selected - Configure your Wolf from any PC or Android device (with iOS and WP8 coming soon) - Wolf Pack mode for single player games: Add one, two or three additional Wolf Controllers to your ‘Pack’ and all other controllers can play in the single player game at the same time! - Voice commands!!! : Control your Wolf by simply speaking, from simple ‘Reload’ to complex macros with just the sound of your voice - Play old classic games from PS3/Xbox 360 market place with your PC Keyboard/Mouse or Android device - Lights: Wolf comes with beautiful blue Leds that you can configure on/off/flashing - Coming soon: Reload pedal add-on an more surprises! Some of these features sound really awesome, and even I had high hopes for this controller when I got the news announcement. On my controller the LED's work exactly as advertised. For a lighted controller mod it functions well. However This brings us to the bad, and the ugly. THE BAD Simply put, the GUI for the wolf controller is horrible. Its a mess to use, its not very intuitive, and adjusting the length of time each button is pushed, or even verifying the controller's programmed macros tested my patience to no end. That said, programming your own macros via recording button pushes is easy enough, and unlike the rest of the GUI this actually functions well. Also bad is the fact that Wolf Controller requires 3rd Party software to use the voice commands. Something not specified in the feature list. (They recommend: Dragon Naturally Speaking) However I don't own any Voice Recognition software so was unable to review that function. I also found the instruction manual to be kind of convoluted, and had a hard time finding the exact info I needed when a problem arose. When all is said and done, this is all arguably subjective and I may not have negatively reviewed the mod on a whole except for....... THE UGLY On the test sample I received the Down Arrow didn't function at all with any macros. This may not be universal, I don't know. When I sent a email to the "questions" address provided, I got 0 reply 24 hours later. This is a major flaw, because this rules out the feasibility of any macros that use multi direction inputs.(for instance a simple set of macros I tried to program was 1 button login/logout for all the profiles on my 360 these failed when directional inputs failed to be sent properly) Not only that but little to no customer support, to a reviewer no less, doesn't bode well for the average user. Also causing my to give them a negative rating here as this is a example of either their FW, or their install abilities, which is worth reviewing since they now sell the Wolf Mod Board pre-installed. Since they never got back, I don't know where the exact issue lies. I do know the GUI's test function shows everything working. "- Play old classic games from PS3/Xbox 360 market place with your PC Keyboard/Mouse or Android device" This also failed to work well, using the mouse means clicking on the picture of the button you want to hit. 9/10 times this resulted in the board recognizing a command but no actual command being sent through the controller to the system. Out of 30-40 different input attempts, I got 2 successful. Major flaws also include the mod board turning off if you plug in the Charge and Play cable, (thanks steveo187 for the heads up on this) I did verify that it's true. The controller is prone to dropping connection's via blue tooth, and the range of blue tooth is severely limited. (mine lost total connection about 5ft or roughly 2.8 meters from my PC) All this said, the Wolf Controller has the potential to be a awesome mod board, provided the flaws and issues I bring up are fixed, but as it stands now it feels more like a test build they are passing off as a complete product, and I have serious concerns about their ability to provide decent install jobs consistently. Also I take a little offense to their claim you can play using Keyboard and mouse, and their customer service really needs to improve. End Result Like I mentioned earlier, as a light mod board it works amazing however a price of $60 is a bit extreme for a simple feature like LEDS, as a rapid fire/macros mod my controller fell flat. Like I said it feels more like a test build they are passing off as a complete product. Serious bug-fixing and overhauls need to happen before I can stand behind and recommend this Mod.   14. (note: This review was done using 100% fan speeds on both OEM and 3rd party fans) So, like most people with a phat 360. I have issues with noise off the fans. To see what could be done about this, I ordered and installed a Whisper fan from Talismoon Mods which claimed to have increased air flow with less noise. So taking a chance I bought and installed some Talismoon Mods Whisper fans for my 360. The install: The fans were well made it seemed. The plastic is strong and the fans didn't feel flimsy. The basic shape of them was the same as the OEM fans with only a slight issue getting the top metal piece to snap into place over the plastic clips and stay there. Overall it fit fine. How they stand up: Initially I was pleased. The fans were slightly quieter, with almost all the high-end whining noise gone. However regarding thier promise of increased airflow, the fans did not perform as advertised. I noticed a 5 Celsius degree increase on all sensors. While not ideal, it seemed like a decent trade (slightly higher temps for slightly less noise) However today, when i booted my 360 it became obvious quickly that the bearings were already shot. Shot in less then 2 weeks of use. While it may have been just my fans. I am unwilling to throw another set inside because those bearings could go at a time when the 360 is under heavy load effectively killing my box. I personally am unable to recommend these fans to anyone, if you use them, use them at your own risk.
