  1. It's really not that hard ;) the hard part is getting it to be stable (boot quickly and consistently)

If you can solder, the rest is easy.

Swizzy and others have written comprehensive tutorials which are very easy to follow :).

Well... I've never soldered anything before. I know how it works but I haven't had any practice. Maybe one day I'll look into it! ;)

  2. Gonna pick your brains this morning.....Bought a bigger HDD for playing games on my JTAG (Seagate 2TB), formatted 1.4 tb to fat32 and the other .6 tb to ntfs. Transferred the files (not the isos) over from my other external (Nexstar 500 GB) and the games don't work/half don't even show up in freestyle on the new 2tb hdd, but plug in the 500 gb and they work no problem. Compatibility issue I'm guessing but not sure as the console doesn't have any problems detecting the new HDD, just will not allow games to be played. Any help would be appreciated!

Switch to the future, switch to aurora :)

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

That's exactly what my problem was! I had a 500Gb and switched to a 1Tb. I tried using FSD, but it wouldn't work the way it was supposed to. Luckily for me, there was Aurora. And what an awesome thing is that! ;) Come to the Aurora side, you won't regret it!

  3. Clear your cache folder

    1. It'll disable/remove all Cache type TU's, but aurora has already backed up all of those...

    2. Yes, that's the same as deleting it with the filemanager...

    Mith here, reporting back:

I'm happy to say that clearing the cache folder worked! The duration of the splash screen is now reduced to 7 seconds! I'm really grateful for all your support MaesterRowen, JPizzle and Swizzy. And I'm also thankful for this new release of Aurora.  If there is anything I can help you guys with in the future, let me know!

  4. Clear your cache folder

Hi JPizzle, thx for your quick answer! I have some minor questions regarding this:

    1. What happens when I clear my cache folder? --> Will this delete all title updates? Do I have to redownload all title updates for all my games?

    2. Is it ok to clear the system cache via the NXE dash in Device Options?

  5.  I believe its the TUscan which I am investigating to see if i can resolve that issue and the issues it causes.

I saw the Aurora 0.3b video on the home page and now I know what the normal loading procedure would look like. Therefore, I would like to specify my previous problem: it is in fact the scanning of the Cache folder that takes 15 seconds or so on its own, while in your video this step is executed almost immediately. Any idea what can be done about this? Should I alter my Cache somehow? Thanks in advance MaesterRowen!

  6. It is not possible.  Only 50 of the covers are preloaded, and its done while other processes or happening so I don't feel like its the reason everything is loading slower.  I believe its the TUscan which I am investigating to see if i can resolve that issue and the issues it causes.

You mentioned you don't have time to download TUs again, but your TUs are all still there, you just need to activate them before the next time you play a specific game.  Only thing you really need to spend some time doing is downloading covers again...  which you can just start and come back to in a couple hours when its all done.

If it's really a turn-off for you, i recommend going back to 0.2b until our next release, disable the update notifications that I mentioned before and stay tuned ^_^

I'm really glad you'll look into this! It sounds reasonable that the TUscan is slowing everything down. I'll keep it to 0.3b for now. It's working as it should, and it's probably still better than FSD. We'll see. Thx!

  7. Thanks- report back with your findings- there is a reason its going slow, we just need to figure it out.

    Reporting back:

With the fresh install of Aurora 0.3b the first time I booted took 1 minute and 26 seconds for "Backing up title updates...". I get that. However, I have to redownload all title updates and artwork, which is probably why the boot time after that first try was decreased to about only 19 seconds (instead of the 27 seconds from yesterday). Also, I don't have the time to redownload title updates for each individual title. So... it's pretty crap. Luckily I kept the of Aurora 0.3b that updated from 0.2b, and everything is still there, but the splash screen loading time is still 27 seconds.

EDIT: Is it possible to use 0.3b but without the feature of preloading covers, like it was in 0.2b?

  8. Are you exagerrating the load time at all?  From the moment you see the splash screen to the moment the splas hscreen goes away , I get an 12-15 seconds.  Thats about as fast as its going to get.

If you are truly taking 30 seconds or longer to get through the splash screen, then either your drives are slow and dying, or something has corrupted- and you amy want to try a new install of Aurora 0.3b to see if the speed is fixed.

I timed it again and it was 27 seconds from the start of the splash screen to the moment the splash screen disappears. My drive shouldn't be slow, as I purchased a new WD Ultra Passport only last month. I shall try a new install, but I won't get my hopes up.

EDIT: Btw, thanks for the effort guys!

  9. How many devices do you have hooked up ie, Usb0, Usb1, etc.   How many XBLA games do you have in your /Content/ folder?

I only have one device hooked up: Usb0. From the 160 titles, about 40 are XBLA games in the content folder of the internal Hdd1.

  10. How many games do you have- and is it slow on the part that says "Scanning...." or the part where it shows its loading titles?   Also is your Aurora installation on USB or internal HDD?

If its slow on the part where it shows Scanning- that means its scanning for Title Updates and the only way to reduce that time is to disconnect some devices.  Unfortunately, Title Updates have to be scanned and backed up befcore you can launch games- or they will get corrupt and break stuff ( ie, if a TU is copying and a game is launching, resulting in a partial copy).

Roughly around 160 titles need to be loaded. "Reading titles from database..." is quick, "Scanning Xbox 360\System\HDD1\Cache and Content" is the slow part.

  11. Same as above ^_^

Edit: Let me be the first to make a remark. I have a large library and it takes 30 seconds for Aurora to scan all content and load the coverflow view, whereas the previous version took only 3 seconds to load. Is this a bug? The update information said 0.3b was intented for large libraries... I think I'm going back to 0.2b for now.

Edit 2: Darn, being back in 0.2b, I need to manage my game paths again. Grr... and always that "please update"-prompt. So... going back to 0.3b

--> main question: Is there any way to speed up the boot process in the title screen?

  12. I'd like to add that FSD3 is working slower when you have a large library of games. Aurora will fix that problem for you. Also, in the future 0.3b update, Aurora will be optimized for large libraries (so they say).

  13. You guys shure know how to keep us waiting! ;) I'm eagerly checking every day.

Great work, still waiting for that WebUI though,,, keep up the good work :D

What will you be using the WebUI for? With F3, I used it only to add custom covers. If you want custom covers in Aurora, you just have to click the 'Push to Xbox' button on xboxunity.net. I'm just saying.

  14. So... what should I do? Now, it's starting on xbox original dash

Start over again and make sure you have all the necessary files copied to your internal HDD. Launch dashlaunch and set the aurora default.xex as default launch dash.

  15. Hi SD, you did the right thing getting a RGH. I have the same slim 250Gb. The tutorial that gonzo posted should help you a long way. After your dashboard update, you should first install xexmenu, then dashlaunch, then FSD  and/or Aurora. FSD is the standard dash atm, but Aurora is catching up quickly. Start with FSD, it has all the necessary features, then, if you grow tired of it, you can just install Aurora. It's not more than copy paste some files. Good luck with everything!
