Installing F3 over 2.2

Recommended Posts

Guys, is there any possible away for me to install F3 WITHOUT losing all the artwork (covers, screenshots, icons, game descriptions, in sum EVERYTHING) that I have previously got for all my games? And I REALLY don't want to download it all again... 'Cause if there isn't, I'd rather stay with 2.2... Hope I'm making myself clear on this issue.

A little offtopic too: I'm currently on the 14719 dashboard, and I was considering updating it to 16202, obviously. But I never did it before, and a friend of mine told that it is recommended that you update it "one-by-one" (14719 to 15572, then 15572 to 15574, then 15574 to 16197, and then FINALLY 16197 to 16202) and don't go directly from 14719 to 16202. Is this a hoax?

Just out of curiosity do you ever search for the answers to your questions? Obviously you didn't in this case or you would have found this

As for your question about having to update in stages, no, that is ridiculous. You can just update straight to the latest dash version.

Check out the tutorials section for some really good info.

Why dont you make an Totally erase, and put the new Freestyle.

I made it 2 week ago LT3 --> LT3 (last version), to be able play in LinkUp, and when i went to the games for first time (Obvious before of making the games path) all the games have the covers. And if you have some special Skin, copy and paste in the new Freestyle before or after install it.

Yes, I did search... not for the word "migrate" though. I guess it's my bad for trying to get some help... Anyway, had a really bad experience with GaDaBaMa before... all it did was mess up my database. I opted for using fsdhttp instead. So if this is the only way, I guess it's no good for me. Thanks for the video, anyway... and thanks for clarifying the thing about the dash update.

I don't want to totally erase it, because I've added a lot of custom artwork (like backgrounds for the emulators and xbox classic games) that are just not downloaded automatically by FSD.

if those custom covers and xbox1 covers are uploaded to jqe360.com they will automatically download, even some homebrew will.

True, but kinda not practical at all, if you already have them on your Xbox HD. Copying the GameData folder from one FSD to the other would be an easier way, but it doesn't work. I just don't get why the need of inserting all the game paths again, and download everything else again, it's just not logical at all.Plus, I went I tried GaDaBaMa again, and it just won't start, something wrong with Access 2010, figures...

Because we handle assets in a completely different way now, the new method increased the over all speed of F3.

Yeah, I saw... I found it really cool the way that you can flip the whole cover now. I decided to install it from scratch... I can get my custom artwork going by taking them from my backups (mostly emulator stuff, and games that have no background, for example). But I messed up, and somehow, someway, I placed Black Ops II into the hidden section (or "no section") and can't get it back. Started ALL OVER again for all games, and now it seems that F3 is not reading all the games I have installed, only a handfull... my god, I seriously wanna kill myself :wallbash:

I thought that fsdhttp would allow me tp move back the game from the hidden section back to the normal section, there's a scroll down option, but it doesn't work at all.

Will try reinstalling it F3 all over again. My HD must be all fragmented by now... Really wish that maybe one day, somehow you guys find a way of defragging this Microsoft format for xbox360 files.

Migrating with GaDaBaMa - the simplest way to get FSD2.2 data/artwork to F3.

Actually it’s pretty simple and safe as long as you follow this brief instruction:

[*]Install F3 in a new folder

[*]Execute F3. This will create the databases (content & settings) but do not configure anything

[*]Copy your FSD2 and F3 folder to a fat32 formatted USB stick

[*]Install GaDaBaMa 2.2.1. Access 2010 Runtime. Access 2010 SP1 Runtime.

Make sure your regional settings in Windows are configured as follows:

Posted Image

Otherwise your .assets files might be faulty.

[*]Plug your USB stick and wait until it is recognized by Windows

[*]Execute GaDaBaMa

If you want to use fullcovers (for 3D view/coverflow):

[*]Do Step1 – Select FSD Folder

[*]Do Step2.

[*]Click on JQE360 tab and download only Covers(!) for All Games

If you don’t need fullcovers or the continuation of the above steps:

[*]Tab DataBase Tools. Migrate FSD2 to F3

[*]If you’ve downloaded all covers select the option convert jpg to dds.

[*]Enable all other features

[*]Select the paths of your FSD2 and F3 folders (root folders!)

[*]Press Start

Once finished plug your USB stick back to your Xbox. Start F3. You’ll have all artwork, all scanpaths and content as with your FSD2 install. On USB it’ll take just a few minutes (may take longer if you opt for the fullcovers route). Copy your F3 folder to your Xbox HDD. Configure Dashlaunch. That’s it.

Hey there Keyser. Thanks for the headsup... I did the migration based only on your youtube vid. So it migrated everything from FSD2, but it obviously didn't downloaded the full covers (the 3D ones, which you can flip and see the back). Is there any way that I can get them without messing up everything else (banners, backgrounds, normal covers)? Do I need GaDaBaMa 3.1.2 for doing it, or will 2.2.1 will suffice? Thanks again mate!!

GaDaBaMa 2.2.1 is only for FSD2 and migration purposes.

The .assets files created through the migration are fully compatible with F3. This means, that you can use all options to insert fullcovers:

  • automatically through F3 (custom cover downloading)
  • manually adding covers (covers.jqe360.com) to your download queue (needs user profile) and syncing with F3
  • manually through http
  • using the latest GaDaBaMa 3.x

If you use GaDaBaMa take note of:

  • .assets files content will be extracted and saved locally under %appdata%gadabamadds during Step4 (sync). If you use a plugged-in USB stick to sync no further actions needed. If you sync over LAN/Samba I'd recommend copying your migrated FSD2 GameData*.* folder to %appdata%gadabamadds. This way it will not extract any files as they will already exist - speeding up the process considerably.
  • Unfortunately there are some game-covers in the jqe360.com database with broken links/no images. You'll have to use the TreeView to filter the missing covers and download them manually (use the view covers function - Tab JQE360, current game)
  • The only crash I had was syncing to a USB stick over Samba. Therefore using Samba Enabled on the database you wish to sync is disabled by default. The F3 database should not get messed up when crashing as the use of .assets files makes it much safer.
  • GaDaBaMa extracts the content of the .assets file and rebuilds the file with your modifications/additions = small/equal filesize. F3 seems to use another method - as far as I could test, if you modify a lot it'll blow up the .assets file. I guess it just appends the new file and changes the header to point to it.
  • If an .assets file is faulty it can crash F3. There is no verification process - wasn't needed until now.
