LibXenon for DevKits?

Recommended Posts

So I would like to use some of the LibXenon only emu and homebrew(what little there is at least) but as I don't have any modded retails I would like to run them on my DevKit.

Problem is I can't seem to find any way of doing that as it needs Xell and the like which afaik doesn't work on an XDK.

I really hope I am just overlooking something here so I figured I would ask before giving up, So any ideas?

Try xell launch with a jtag xell image. just run the xex file, and it should launch xell. I havnt tried this as I dont have a devkit, but I would think the Idea is sound.

Tried this here

http://digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/xbox-360-content/libxenon-homebrew-jtag-reset-glitch-content/9158-xell-launch-xell-reloaded-hdmi-support-quickboot-shortcut-download.html

After signing it to dev it runs but all it does is send me to xshell.

EDIT2: Here is the output from watson again but resigned it to dev with X360GameHack with only the "Make Dev" option enabled plus moved the location of Xell Launch

Unless i'm just not doing it right, All I have on the devkit is this, Do I also need to add the say mupen elf file in there? cause from the little I know Xell should be its own thing that will list the homebrew for me to start.

XeLL doesn't list homebrew... it'll launch xenon.elf from the root of usb0:\

You don't need to resign the apps, they should run as-is... is your devkit a real devkit or a RGLoader machine? RGLoader have XeLL already... anyways, for XeLLLaunch you need to have xell.bin next to the xex which from the xbwatson output you don't seem to have as it tries file first, then nand (there is none in your nand to start so i assume it's a real devkit)

Its a Proto Slim that I patched with "ghettohax" by nateleroux so it runs as a full Dev instead of Test

EDIT: KK so here is how I am doing things

I set up my FAT32 formated USB as this

post-56337-0-65495400-1422001878_thumb.png

Next after inserting it into the Xbox I run Xex Menu from xshell to then run the default.xex that is XellLaunch, It just kicks me back to xshell with no error. same if I try HvxBoot.

And I checked XellLaunch with xextool and it is indeed retail signed so I have to resign it to dev to run it.

EDIT2!: So I was looking around the forum and found a link to a what seems to be a much more updated XellLaunch!

Now this one is indeed dev to begin with so no signing needed plus it comes with xell-2f.bin but when running it I just get a black screen.

Got it from your link here swizzy ==> http://www.realmodscene.com/index.php?/topic/4606-help-instaling-xell-reloaded-v0993/

could you do a XBWatson dump to see what's actually going on? or even better; setup kernel debugging and check what that says...

Well I tried setting up KDnet and WinDBG but after rereading the section on it in the SDK docs I am still very lost, And while xbWatson is easy enough to use the problem I have is the system doesn't seem to crash, it just hangs so it never dumps anything.

I am sure I can force a dump somehow but IDK how so I will keep reading tho it would be nice to get some instruction on what to do.

EDIT: Yep it seems to find the xell-2f.bin then tries to load it but it just hangs, I am using a third party USB controler and all its LED's light up and stay that way, the flash drive LED stops blinking so it seems to no longer be reading from it as well.

Not sure if it matters but I am using VGA @ 1280x1024 on this.

Also here is the full process I go to run this.

kernel debugging is done by setting up the settings with xbsetcfg.exe followed by rebooting the console while you have windbg open and set to actually do the kernel debugging... my guess is that it hangs on something, but after speaking with some friends that have xdk's you need a special build, you can't just go with a normal one... dunno what hacks nate put into that thing you have... =/

I figured I would need an XDK specific version of Xell but I was hoping that wasn't the case.

While I do somewhat understand what I am doing, I am no dev so it seems it ends here till someone with the needed skills takes interest.

Thanks for the help and might you be able to point me to who I should talk to regarding this? Based on what you said I assume a version for my XDK does exists but is private so I figure I would just ask whoever made it.

EDIT: Well got the kernel debugger working(I think) so here is what it said, I did not have the VGA cable connected at boot as my monitor only has one VGA in which I use for both PC and Xbox thus I have to switch out the cable depending on what needs doing.

It's not a special XeLL build, it's a special patch to the kernel which you seem to have... could you try to put XeLLLaunch in a folder instead of at the root of your usb?

Oh! So if I didn't run the dev patch it would work fine? Unfortunately I do need it so I can't just go without.

Anywhoo I put XellLaunche in a folder and tried again. but it again got stuck in a black screen tho something different did happen as it seems to have tried returning to xshell.

I only moved the XellLaunch default.xex and xell-2f.bin into the folder. Oh and if you want the output of when I run the dev patcher to see what it is doing then that can be arrainged.

I know this is an old post but for those of you still looking for an answer, here it is. There are two methods they use to boot xell (libxenon) on devkit. One uses a specially signed hvexpansion (HvBootOS) that only works on older kernel versions because the key was changed at some point. You can downgrade your devkit to one of these versions to make this work. The other method uses a modified syscall 0 to re-enable memory protection and then load and jump to the entrypoint. If you use RGLoader on your devkit this method will work.

It's not a special XeLL build, it's a special patch to the kernel which you seem to have... could you try to put XeLLLaunch in a folder instead of at the root of your usb?

He seems to have it but no he doesn't actually have the syscall patch. Its just calling and returning but not actually doing what its supposed to (jumping to execute the code). If anyone is still interested in doing this I can upload a shadowboot for RGL.

Do you have one for an actual kit and not just rgl? Lol
