looking for a bit of advice please, rgh wont boot most backups

Recommended Posts

Firstly Hello! and thanks to the team for making FSD!

Secondly, I was looking for a bit of help and advice, I have an arcade Falcon with RGH, I had fsd 2.2 for a while but decided to upgrade yesterday, I have updated my NAND to the latest kernel i think, 16203, and have installed FSD 3 rev735. I used to play my games off my USB hard drive but that died last week, the console did play backups though, after updating the kernel it seemed to stop so I presumed that it had reflashed my DVD drive. I flashed today with LT+3.0 again and when i tested it, it booted my backup of COD4. After i cleared everything away (had to get my old pc out to flash), I tried again and it gave the unrecognizable disc error. It seems to do this for all my backups, it plays originals (FIFA13) and i tried an OLD backup (FIFA 09) and it played that too. I went through a phase of patching my backups around the AP2.5 time, as i didnt want to reflash the drive. Would this stop them booting? I managed to get Bioshock 2 to boot but i got an intercepted fatal error instead! I unloaded Dashlaunch and that error disappeared and the game ran OK. I tried another older backup, GRAW2, which gave me the intercepted fatal error, then I unloaded dashlaunch and it gave the unrecognized disc error instead.

It plays XBLA games off my HDD fine.

Do you think this could be kernel related? Could it have changed my efuses? Would that matter?

I did do the avatar $$ystemupdate and the avatar shows on FSD. I also just reflashed my NAND aswell and got the same errors.

I dont use the console online as I have a retail one too so I dont mind flashing the DVD back to a previous FW if that might help?

Thanks in advance for any advice you could offer :)

Could it possibly be that your laser is dying?  We change out lasers for people at the shop all of the time, usually costs less then $10 for the part.  If you do replace your laser, there is a little ball of solder that bridges a couple of pads in order to prevent static damage while the laser is in transit.  you'll need to remove this before you install.  Other than that it sounds  like your system should be working fine.  You have the latest dashlaunch, fsd and microsoft kernel, so the only other thing I can think of that would cause the problem would be hardware.

Would a pot tweak help this? Seems strange that it will load a retail game. And will load a backup if dashlaunch is off, perhaps that's a coincidence though. I was thinking the firmware might not like patched iso discs?

How did you build your image and did you select dash launch install with it or did you install dashlaunch manually or through fsd3

I used the fsd installer but it wasn't getting the latest one so I updated that by swapping the files over from the new version. The dashlaunch was an older version too, 3.05 I think, so I replaced that with 3.07. Is there a specific way to update or is swapping files over ok?

By image do you mean the NAND image? I dumped it with nandflasher 360 I think. The second time I used xell, then used j runner to build it and NAND flasher to load it

Well I just did a pot tweak down from 6.7 to 3.5 and games are playing again! GRAW 2 seemed really choppy though. I've ordered another laser anyway, thanks for the help and advice, it was hardware after all! :)

Replaced the laser and still having this problem. Games will start then give me the unrecognised disc error. I'm starting to think it could be a dae.bin issue. Is there a way to fix that? I don't use live so I'd rather it just booted anything and everything if that's possible!?
