  1. But that's when compiling from source comes in handy, just need the dependencies first and it builds it with no problems usually. Not directing this at Swizzy or Gavin as I know they already know this but I'm pretty sure fulltimehustler doesn't. Matter of fact its one of the only ways to get an emulator fully functioning in Linux, especially the better MAME and MESS ports.
  2. Yes, you need guest additions for full USB functionality also which you might want for your JR Programmer. For mounting disc images (standard not console) you would want FuriousISO. I might be wrong on the spelling of the application name though. Brasero is great for actual disc burning and you might have issues with the .NET framerwork. Not sure in a VM since it's been awhile but with winetricks it's a PITA.
  3. So Ced is back coding again. I found this thread while looking for the 2.0.9 version and cmkn_1983 has been working on the newer updates. Give it a read. http://ks3372552.kimsufi.com/smf/index.php?topic=68.15
  4. Well, I went and traded a Falcon JTAG, Silver tip phat PSU and when I order the crystal console from Canada, I'll be giving him all the parts off of it that I don't use in restoring this devkit. One strange issue though. The console boots, no RoL errors, but I cannot get it to give me a display with my AV cable, but his displayed the splash screen. Any specific type of AV cable I should be using with this thing and any ideas as to whether or not HD conversion is possible with it? My other question is whether or not if I solder out the old original EEPROM chip itself with one from another xbox that I have a working drive for will it recognize and work? I've done this with repairing standard hard drives by doing a controller board replacement so I'm really curious as if it's possible or not. Now hard drives have EEPROM built into their controller board so I'm assuming here that the EEPROM on the console is a second one for drive verification purposes. So the thought here for me would be that even if my donor hard disk failed, then as long as I swapped the EEPROM from the failed drive to the donor drives controller board that it should recognize as long as it is the same make/model drive as the original one.
  5. Yeah I noticed when I loaded the disc last night. I thought it'd be more complicated than that. Pretty cut n dry actually. Thanks again for the utility disc man. Awesome stuff!!
  6. What about a plugin to utilize Mega for this? Like have the content encrypted and when users connect they would exchange a public key that would be asymmetric linked to their unity account?
  7. Shit..... I can tape the logo and try to color match it, the stencil I'd probably need to look around for or make it from scratch.. =\
  8. It is a crystal case. Only have the bottom portion of it though... Truly a project worthy of looking into I think.
  9. Thanks! I was wondering how I would read and/or write to it, but from what I'm gathering is that you use the app on the superdisc iso to read the EEPROM and write it to the donor drive correct? Kinda like doing the security sector hack? That's going to be the really hard part.... especiall finding the bezzel for the drive. the internals were black right? or were those thing also crystal?
  10. I have that console here right now. I really should've asked to bring back the devkit to start working on it. Didn't really think I'd get so much good advise back so soon. I'm sure if he doesnt have a usable dvd drive I do in this stack of crap in the garage. As far as the HDD goes, we'll have to look around for one to use any brand limitations or can I just pop in any EIDE drive that will work? Thanks for the Superdisc link. What will I need to read the EEPROM for the new drive lock info? And is that more or less the same way I'd use a JR programmer, or can I use any old JTAG reader/writer like my Blackcat or a TTL rs232 cable? Also what dumping/writing software will I need? Or is this also on the superdisk iso? ###### EDIT ###### This is what I'd want once I have a partitioned drive in the devkit to fully restore its tools on the drive correct? Release Info: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WAM is proud to present XBOX XDK 5933. Notes: ~~~~~~ So Whats this? a new xdk? but microsoft said 5849 was the last one.. Well they straight out lied. This xdk was produced for Microsoft's in house developers (Think Halo 2). What they tweaked is unknown but rest assured it must be good. -We've included the remote recovery exe for those who have an official debug kit. WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING If you have a retail modded xbox do not use the remote recovery executable. it can and will flash your bios, overwrite your harddrive, and blank your eeprom. Unless of course you know what your doing. do not blame us if you hose your xbox! WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING
  11. Greatly appreciated! I'll ask around at TX and check around on isozone. Hopefully we get lucky!!
  12. My buddy here sladezdragonz scored this quite recently and while over at his house we were checking it out. No hard drive or cd rom though.... Anyone know any information on this on how we might be able to get it going again? Console was found in a garbage dumpster, No top case, no HDD, no DVD drive. I originally only had black screen on boot until I did the "Coma Console" fix which now on boot loads flubber splash screen then hangs before M$ logo is displayed. EEPROM was dumped using serial cable method from an old Win 98 box in PonyProg and is displayed as shown below. No serial number listed Since I acquired it, it now has a Thomson DVD drive (Will swap out with a Samsung when I repair one from the pile of parts in the garage) and a Maxtor DiamondMAX 16 160GB ATA 133 EIDE drive with rounded ATA 133 cables. Manufacture date is: December 2001 N/A EEPROM is: XM2-3944 TSOP is: Hyundai Encoder chip is: Connexant CX25871-14 I also have a X2 Pro modchip to work with, but no cables, software, or previous knowledge on how to use said modchip....
  13. I'm going to do some more research on that consolidation mod. He did an amazing job I think. I really want to do that to this Model one that I scored but I think I'd have to locate at least a Saturn Chassis for the boards to fit all under one hood.
  14. I just got a PS1 SCPH-7501 with the parallel port on it, 2 controllers, ac adapter and five games for $35 today. I gave the kid $95 and he kicked me down a N64 with controller and its power supply with internal memory upgrade and TWO Sega Genesis (Model 1 & Model 2) with one controller. I'm going to add these to the bucket list of future projects to do. I'm really interested in the Genesis though, I found out you can overclock it, add region switch, and language switch (Japanese/English) and then stumbled on a project another guy did that he calls the Sega Fusion, which puts a genesis, 32x, and SegaCD all under the hood of a Saturn chassis. Check this out!
  15. RIGHT????? hahahah!!! Titan Z will outperform the R9 single card for sure. I won't deny that at all. It's a beast, but damn.... 1500? REALLY??? Thats almost the price of how much I put into building my entire server. I really think for regular gamer's that the R9 will suit full graphics with no issues. Those comparisons I posted were in 2560x1440 resolutions. I can't wait until Doom 4 is on the shelves as I think it will be setting a lot of standards in PC gaming and the consoles also. I had a alpha burst test code for PS4 and gave it to my ex-fiancee and she now hates CoD as she's been addicted to it like crack for the last 5 years. One multiplayer ALPHA level made by iD did that much damage guys..... Makes me wonder how sexy it's going to look with either video card on PC. I can't wait until they give me the Beta code, I'll probably go hang out with that sociopathic monster just to play it. lol
  16. The 970Ti does outperform it but to be honest, when you get to the kinds of performance levels it really doesn't matter anymore unless better rendering technology comes out. I havent looked up any benchmarks in awhile aside from that one but it does make me wonder what the new cards will be capable of doing. Also in regards to the Titan Z, when you compare price, for the money I still think the R9 would probably be better than anything else in its price range. I mean c'mon bro... you're comparing a $1500 card to one that sells for $400 at the most. Lets be a bit more realistic in our comparisons... That's like me telling you that your Antec case is shit compared to the Thermaltake Level 10 Titanium edition. I like Nvidia, I just admire AMD more. They've always been one of the best companies around. Even before they merged with ATI. I'll guarantee you that R9 will crack a hashkey faster than any Nvidia product under 1000 bucks. Now run dual or quad crossfire (I don't like triple SLI or Crossfire) and it will outperform your beloved Titan Z in ways that would make your mind spin. Now the 390X does outperform the Nvidia GTX 980 and it sells for around $490 wheras the 980 does sell for around $570 http://www.hardocp.com/article/2015/08/17/asus_r9_390x_strix_directcu_iii_8g_oc_review/1#.VnI4ruLrZSU
  17. I was thinking of replacing my 660 ti's with dual R9 290x also made by Asus. Those R9's outperformed the Nvidia Titan cards by a long shot on a [H]ardOCP test and review. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2015/04/20/grand_theft_auto_v_video_card_performance_preview/3#.VnIY7OLrZSU
  18. I always like how you can overclock the hell out of them. only downside is their heat. I'm running a Asus Sabertooth 990FX board with and 8350 and 32GB of Corsair Vengeance with 1 120GB PNY SSD and 3 4TB Hitachi HGST over 2 Asus Geforce GTX 660 TI-DC20-2DG5 cards in SLI mode. Cosair H100i water cooling. The case (Mid size ATX) is pretty cool not sure what brand but it has a top dock for hot swapping SATA and eSATA drives with two lower hotswappable front 3 1/2" bays with 4 internal and 2 internal 2 1/2" bays. Only bad thing is I burned out my 750 watt PSU which I plan on replacing with a Corsair AX1200i.
  19. I'm going to just post these two articles here. Check them out and maybe how you may or may not feel about AMD might just change. While my server does utilize two Asus GTX 660TI Direct CU2 OC SLI cards, it is an 8 core overclocked AMD 8350 with 32GB of RAM and does transfer data at 124-168 MBps to my 13TB RAID array. No it does not run Windows (Probably why it works so well....) Don't get me wrong Nvidia has always been a good company, but honestly speaking I've always liked AMD for its server functionality and as a gaming system for its overclocking capabilities. Check these two links though, great stuff really. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-freesync-over-hdmi-hdr,30711.html?hootPostID=35d81869cefe6f8be7e2408b4c1ff790 http://www.pcworld.com/article/3014773/components-graphics/watch-out-gameworks-amds-gpuopen-will-offer-developers-deeper-access-to-its-chips.html
  20. Could you possibly post your log file that was generated? That would probably say exactly what the problem is. I'm guessing here but Swizzy would know, but the log file should be debug.log, located in your Aurora/Data/Logs folder. I'd grab it via FTP and just copy/paste it here in a post with the code button so it's easier to read. If it's a problem that can be addressed posting the log would help greatly for others in the community who have the same problem but want to keep their png as their background.
  21. I've also noticed that the highest resolution you can support in Aurora is 1920X1080 but it never gave me an error if it was larger than that, just wouldn't display at all.
  22. Aptitude is in the repo, but the one I think you're referring to is their software center, there is another one which was released called AppGrid which is a faster loading and from what I've read better package manager than the standard software center. I agree with you on Gentoo and Arch. I can't say I like Slackware because of how much of a pain in the ass it can be to config. Gentoo is hard also but at least you can build it custom to your hardware. The last time I installed Gentoo I think was back in 2004 with a KDE manager to run a Battlefield 1942 server. I have no experience with Arch but I know many people who do use and enjoy it.
  23. I recommend learning BASH and downloading and installing guake terminal. Its a great way for CLI stuff.Since you use mint, here is the link for their official forums for their kernal builds. The only problem is that their main forum is currently down due to what looks like an SQL issue. http://forum.linuxmint.com/ I would recommend http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/ Here's some more places for good info http://www.linux.org/forums/beginner-tutorials.53/ And I would STRONGLY recommend the book or ebook "A Practical Guide to Linux Commands, editors, and Shell Programming" by Mark G. Sobell Google and *other* areas can be your friend in this regard.... ISBN-13: 978-0-13-136736-4 ISBN-10: 0-13-136736-6 Ya Ubuntu is apt-get. I think Mint uses apt also since its all debian based. And CentOS // Redhat // Fedora systems use YUM
  24. Use WINE, https://www.winehq.org/download/ I'd think you shouldnt have too much of an issue with the USB stuff.... The only one I'd think you might have a problem with would be FATxplorer but you'd just have to create a custom mount profile for the drive in question I think. I'll try it out on my Laptop that runs the current distro of Ubuntu 15.10 and let you know. EDIT If all else fails and you cannot get it to run with WINE, install Virtualbox and run it from Win 7 emulated. Its not a game so you shouldnt have any issues at all I'd think...
