  1. http://www.realmodscene.com/xbins/XBOX%20360/emulators/DSon360/ this is the only one that I know of and truth be told it doesn't work very well and hasn't seen any development in years. In the future you can search easily find these sort of things yourself by clicking on the "Xbins" tab at the top of the page.
  2. I brought a Jtag and an RGH back from the dead today just so I could install this! Thanks guys!
  3. youtube I can understand, but wouldn't it be simpler to just rig a dual booting console and use the free apps that come with a silver Xbox live membership using apps specifically designed to be used on a console? That being said, the last thing I ever want to do is surf the web on a console using a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard.
  4. I was just learning a little more about a new exploit that's been discovered in usb hardware called badusb. Apparently it's a pretty big security threat because a usb drive can masquerade as another device (say a keyboard, or a printer, or perhaps an Xbox 360 controller...). From what I understand it can be used to fake its way onto an otherwise locked down system and then use it's hidden programming to exploit said system, Trojan Horse style. It has nothing to do with the Xbox (at least not for now anyway) but, I'm wondering if those with more knowledge and expertise might have some input as to whether or not it could be useful in exploiting an Xbox system (I'm looking at you Swizzy).
  5. Try the guys over at http://tortuga-cove.com/ they are my go to when I need a question answered about the PS3.
  6. Sorry man, but that just doesn't make sense to me. The 360 was initially sold at below it's manufacturing cost so that Microsoft could make money off of game sales and accessories. (Which is a common practice in the console industry). What would then be the benefit of building in a security exploit if they are only losing money on hardware with every sale and then also not making any money off of software? If Sony was so on board with it during the PS2 life cycle, why then would they have tried to sue the pants off of Geohot when he unearthed the PS3's security vulnerability? Why patch the exploit on every PS3 post 3.55? Why block the Jtag hack or RGH1? It just doesn't add up for a companies bottom line to include exploits just to sale units in 3rd world markets unless those units were egregiously over priced to begin with. And though units in places like Brazil are ridiculously over priced, from what I've read it is due more to government fees and regulations than it is to retail mark up. I hope that doesn't come off as arrogant, that's just the way I see it from what I can observe. But hey, I could be dead wrong! I don't sit on the development team for Microsoft or Sony, so what would I know about it?
  7. I'd guess it will need some form of hardware like a glitch chip when/if a hack does emerge. I'd be shocked if microsoft hadn't learned it's lesson from the last go round and left something open that was as easy to exploit as the jtag hack or a softmod hack. Not that I'd complain if something like that was uncovered.
  8. Thanks for the advice, the program I'm in has a set of core classes that everyone takes and then a set of secondary courses that branch out into a specialty, so I have a little time to decide ultimately where I want to end up. I don't think I want to strictly write code as a career, so probably more on the end of network administration. However, I still want to start coding as a hobby. I've been on the receiving end of the scene for nearly a decade and am looking forward to finally being able to make some sort of contribution. I've already got a bachelors in broadcasting/advertising and found that wasn't for me, however, during that process I began fixing other students PC problems. At first it was just as a favor to friends, but eventually people began paying me money to fix them up for them. I found it to be pretty simple stuff, nothing google couldn't tell you how to fix, but they treated me like I was some kind of PC super wizard. At that point I began fixing game consoles, phone screens, etc. Mostly hardware stuff and that's when I realized I had wasted my time and money on the wrong education.
  9. Sounds like my first Jtag, back when everyone was doing it over lpt. I had done it correctly, but the guide I followed made it sound like xexmenu would just kind of be there like back in the day when you'd load unleash x onto an original Xbox. I though I'd made a mistake when the stock dash came back so I pulled my wires and rewired about three times when I must have pulled a pad and it would no longer boot. Such a noob mistake!
  10. Probably not a huge deal, but I'm excited as this will hopefully give me enough background and understanding to begin contributing to the scene in some small way. Currently I'm just in the middle of A+ certification but later on I'll be hitting some C++ along with some other courses. Any recommendations for other courses I should enroll in?
  11. Why don't you just use dashlaunch to adjust your fan speeds? That way it doesn't matter what you boot to first.
  12. For simplicity sake I like to use autogg to download and install avatar updates
  13. "Do what you want, I don't care anymore." Is this a new RMS meme?
  14. For what it's worth I use 70mm laptop fans on all of the phat boxes that I service. I wire these into the dvd tray. Red wire to one of the 12v lines on the tray and black wire to the 3.3v. This gives me about 9v, which is nice since it isn't too noisy but is still pushing plenty of air. I then mount the fan with a little hot glue to the air intake grill on the metal shielding of the top case. This puts the fan directly above the GPU heatsink fin and keeps my GPU's constantly cooler than my CPU. If you don't have the updated heatsink for the GPU with the extra fin, I'd say it's worth it to get one. I keep my fans on auto and set my target temps to around 60 C in dashlaunch. This avoids the hurricane of the 12v mod. Finally, I always install an H-clamp to help keep my boards level, as a bonus this also helps knock a few degrees off due to the thermal pads that come with the H clamp that are directly under the gpu and cpu. If you'd like I can post pics, good luck!
  15. I am personally offended that Aurora will not be using chocolate chips in the cookies that it bakes for me. Chocolate flakes are super retardo and I refuse to be satisfied until chips are implemented in the Aurora dash. F3, M$, Sony, Atari Jaguar, Sega Game Gear and Colecovision all use chips because that's what works best and that's what the people want. I can't believe that you would give me something new that doesn't work exactly like the thing I used before. Yeah, chips, bingo. Do what you want, I don't care anymore.
  16. You guys implemented rom browsing? That is so cool! I can't wait to try this out, thank you so much!
  17. For that many covers I'd definitely go low res. Also, it has always seemed to me that f3 has been fickle with cover display and downloads. Whenever I had a problem I've almost always had to do a full re install and start from scratch if I didn't want constant error messages or blank covers.
  18. That looks really good! I'd love to see this in English!
  19. Just downloaded, thanks Swizzy!
  20. hold rb at bootup to go directly to microsoft dashboard
  21. I don't really see the point unless your using it to play online and if you are trying to use it online I guarantee you will find no help from anyone on this forum as we very highly look down on those who want to take a modded console onto Xbox live.
  22. I don't know Swizzy, do you think there's someone in this forum who knows a thing or two about this particular bit of software?
  23. Wiiflow has a similar feature, emulators built directly into the dash, I'd love to see this happen and I don't think there is any harm in asking for it as long as we aren't being demanding by acting like the devs owe it to us. We should always expect that our request won't be filled either, that is unless it aligns with the overall goals of the dev team. I see a lot of people complain on these forums who've never had to pay one red cent for all of the hard work that the devs have put into both Freestyle and Aurora. However, at the end of the day the devs definitely have a long list of priorities that supersede most of the requests that we would have for the dashboard and they most likely involve improving core functionality and stability. That said, having the visual appeal of the Aurora GUI combined with the heavy lifting of retroarch would be akin to the holy grail of emulation.
