  1. If you have any friends, that'd be the best way to check it, have them setup a game for you to try and join... if you can see it, it's working, if not... it's not working...

Using randoms isn't going to be a good way to check if it's working or not... you want to KNOW there is a game hosted that isn't started yet in the room you're in... also, try different games, see if ANY game is working...

Ive no friends with system link. Are you on it by any chance? so you can set it up for me.. if that isnt much trouble hehe

  2. well i'd say it is like this.. start small.. use 1 person lobbies.. trying to look for a specific game.. jumping into public lobby looking for a game and it not showing up could be because of their game being full.. started a game and it hasn't reflected.. there are a few reasons why you cant see games besides failing ports..

That makes.. sense actually. cause I always go to the most number of people on the lobby.. I hope this works! Ill try when I get home from work.. I hope theres a lobby with just 1 person..

  3. Yes, i said it was ok, why? because they only check if they're forwarded, most try to get ALL functions working, now, if you can open the ports, you should be able to both host and play... it's not required to connect to others...

Well thats great to hear.. but it has always been like that before.. every time i dont see any rooms in-game, that usually means the port tests are failed.. and thats always true when i was still playing on LINK.

Anyway, why cant i see the rooms in-game then? (i can still join on the sytsem link menu when you press the xbox orb). What do you think I should do? I hope i really can get back to link..

  4. Yes, it's ok, as long as you're only playing and not hosting...

I cannot tell you why yours don't work, i'm not a networking expert, so i can't really tell you what to do in order to solve the problem, you could try with a free VPN service see if it makes things work that way...

Im sorry but this post kinda stuck on me.. Did you just say its ok to have failed the test on the ports? Cause when you look at all the link support threads, they're always looking for a pass on those test. and thats mainly the indicator that link will work.

  5. Yes, it's ok, as long as you're only playing and not hosting...

So having failed ports on the test will still allow you to join rooms and play with pther link users? Well no rooms are shown in-game. It has always been like that even before my isp changed. When ports are failed, u cant see the rooms.

A free vpn wont suffice they say. Or im not sure how to setup vpn cause u cant install vpn to the xbox itself.

  6. I just explained it, and you're asking me why? i just f*ing told you!

Some games tell the system to NOT use any other device then HDD, perhaps they even manually load the data (not sure as i don't work in a game studio) Basically, performance is important for some developers, so they block loading the data from any other device then the internal HDD... because of the performance difference...

So is that is that a yes or a no? besides the performance, what else is the difference? so does Hardline actually require an internal HDD? and its impossible to play with just an external?

  7. It's slightly less easy depending on how you see it, if you FTP over the content to your internal HDD or copy it using a filemanager, it's fairly easy...

If you on the other hand want to mess with software on your computer instead you'll likely end up with more headaches then it's worth...

The data goes to the same place no matter what device you store it on, some games require the internal mainly because of the performance difference, an internal HDD is going to work slightly faster then an external one as you're going directly from SATA to the southbridge rather then SATA -> USB -> Southbridge

Ok i dont get it. So it works just like the USBMU trick of external HDD? Why do some multidisc games cant be played without internal? I mean gta v and alien worked with just transferring the disc 1 on the USBMU partition of the external hdd..

  8. all depends on your kernel.. if you have 17349, externals work just like internals without the "32gb limit" USB's use to have...

if you dont want to update, get an internal hdd with the case that's roughly $5..

I dont think im on the latest kernel. im on the one before the latest. I can play multi disc games with just my external hdd. like alien isolation and gta v..

But i wanna play Hardline.. and they say i cant play it without an internal hard drive.. so it got me thinking to just buy one... but will it be easier then? i dont wanna spend and have the same frustation when installing multi disc.

  9. It's only required for hosting, when you're hosting a game... when you just want to join someone else, you shouldn't need the portforward... it might help in some cases, but shouldn't be required...

If thats the case, its ok to have "fail" results on the ports part of the system link test? ANd why cant i see the rooms in-game when i go to system link? But i can join on the system link menu.

  10. have you tried using upnp option. I have not encountered that grade of nat, but would assume that it would support upnp. upnp forwards the ports for you, so you dont have to. the ports will probably fail, but if upnp passes, you are probably good. :) test it with a friend, and host a game in a private room. if they can join it is working. either way, you should still be able to join games either way. :)

Well my router isnt upnp enabled.. lets assume it is.. will i still play games on link even if ports failed to be forwarded? ive read some forums that our isp really doesnt allow port forwarding anymore just this year cause they ran out of ip addresses.

  11. UPNP is Automatic port forwarding compared to doing it manually (which is better)

The latest kernel doesn't matter, having the latest FSD or any Aurora version is required, using older versions of FSD means you're not using the latest plugin which means you're out of luck...

Oh i thought u were talking about the kernel.. Uhm yes im on the latest FSD. Unless til December theres a new update that i didnt know..

But yeah, im sure its not the fsd.. since i even tried the new Aurora.

  12. Before buying a new router, I would see if you can at least reset settings back to default in your current router. You may need to reconfigure some things, but you're going to do that with a new router anyway. Good practice for knowing how to setup a network too. If you are having ip conflicts, that would clear them, and any other lease issues out.

I would also look for a DHCP Reservation setting. That way you only set device ip's from your router once, and no other device can conflict with it... ever. I like that better than static ip's personally. No matter how many reboots my router goes through, each and every device is always on the ip address i expect it to be on. I have about 15-20 devices on reservation, and leave 10 addresses open for people visiting with tablets, computers and phones.

I would also stick with port forwarding, it just gives you more control over ports than UPNP, but that's just a personal preference.

Is doing a hard reset completely reset my router? i thik theres a sealed button on the back but its sealed by my isp and they dont want me to do that.

Anyway, i dont think it is ip conflicts.. i mean just a few devices connect to my wifi. and sometimes i even make sure no one is using the wifi when i use system link.

Wait.. is upnp different with port forwarding?

Make sure you are running F3 3.0.775 (rev 775) or Aurora to begin with

If that fails, it's likely going to work better with a new router as yours have been giving you headaches in the past, however... it could also be something your ISP changed that is causing the issue, i would probably start with replacing the router tho as you've mentioned before that it doesn't function as expected

Personally i prefer using OpenWRT rather then using the stock firmware

I dont think im on the latest kernel.. but it was always working before.. Yes, i tried Aurora but still no pass.

  13. Ive been playing on Link seamlessly before. Some failed ports a few times so i have to switch but i can get back to it at no time. But on december, it went completely down on me.

I made this thread on April: http://www.realmodscene.com/index.php?/topic/5139-help-me-get-back-on-system-link/

Im just wondering if there are new changes? Maybe i have to update for link to work? Also, i think updating wont even work so the only option now here is buy a new router.

Do you think that would do it? Maybe i should buy a popular router. Maybe something with UPNP support? DO you think that would work? What brand do u recommend?

  14. As long as it is over 1000 it should work. most ports under this are used by services like web servers, windows networking, nfs, mysql, etc. As long as you forward both udp, and tcp on both ports, and then you make sure to put the forwarded port numbers the plugin settings, it should work. if it doesnt I dont know what to tell you.

Hmm maybe i should try something ive never used before. Like 9000 and 9001? Maybe some app is using the ports ive been using.. I hope thats just the cause.
