gavin_darkglider 1562 Posted October 20, 2016 I dont know if you can access that with the xbox kernel. You should be able to plug it in to a PC, and check it that way. Just dont format it on accident.
Swizzy 2083 Posted October 20, 2016 Would it be possible to add a hdd smart table check-up feature in aurora? I don't think it'll be something we'll add to Aurora, however... someone could probably write a tool that does this, if they feel like doing so, i'm pretty sure it's possible to get raw access to the hdd which would allow for direct commands to be sent to the HDD (and thus get the S.M.A.R.T information) What for? It would be used to determine if the HDD is good or bad...
lev 32 Posted October 20, 2016 This would be pretty straight forward to do with https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Smartmontools Except, ubuntu-10.10-xenon-beta5.zip is not really a very well working distribution any more. For example, apt-get fails. Is there any update or fixes or patches to get it functioning properly?
professor_jonny 35 Posted November 2, 2016 One problem is most pc tools won't get smart data over usb and need a true data connection to work, the dev for fatxplorer (eaton) will implement SMART in the upcoming v3 of his software. I almost lost all my data because of a drive failing and it would be nice if Aurora Alerted us in some way lots of people are not aware of smart and it would be good for us with ageing hdd's, to just keep tabs on them with little effort.
