Help Need to make FSD skin with no covers, no description, no screenshots

Recommended Posts

I am using Freestyle dash and running it in "Classic NXE - Game Icon Visual" and it looks like this screenshot I found in google images.

http://i52.tinypic.com/wkqmig.png

My problem is I am using Freestyle on a box with no internet and I don't really want to download 1gb of images to take up space on my older HDD. The 3 windows on the right side of the picture look like garbage with no covers, descripion and screenshot. I want to remove them completely.

Today Swizzy helped me out and recommended I get Aurora but after using it for a couple of hours I don't like it and prefer Freestyle Dash. So I installed Freestyle dash 3 r775 and tried to mod the default skin using the tools he recommended, The problem is XUI Tool and XUIworkshop don't work for me and they either can't open the XUR files or just crash. What other tools can I use to get rid of the boxes to just give me a clean list like the left side of the screenshot?

Aurora is the best bet, if you hit X, it will bring up a list like fsd 2.2 did, or you could always downgrade to fsd 2.2. FSD 3 didnt have that option. Plus Aurora has a lot of nice features, that you cant get in FSD, like the file manager will give you the names of all the content in the content folder, assuming you are connected to unity, the Rom launcher, to launch emulator roms directly from the dashboard, Built in trainer Launcher.

Plus, if you copy the content.db, you can actually manually create covers for aurora, and download all of the assets from unity, or xbox.com, on the computer, and manually copy them to the xbox. :) There is no option to load the content.db locally, but in the new app swizzy is working on there probably will be, as it will allow you to modify the db. I honestly didnt like aurora at first, but with bigger librarys, it handles them much better, so if you, like me have over 100 titles in your DB, I have like 220, then I am sure you have noticed that aurora handles loading your stuff faster.

Also XUI workshop is only for the hudscene, where the plugin changes the guide menu. and if you are trying to load the xzp file, that would explain why xui tool isnt working, as the xzp is a special type of zip file used by the xbox. You need XZP-tool-V2.0, which you can find by searching the forum, then open the xur file in xui tool. Make sure when you are done editing the xur files you export as binary, or else it will save it as an xui file which is useless in FSD, or Aurora for that matter. :)

Did you use XUITool, which is part of the XDK?

XUIWorkshop only support XUR8

to make it work, you need to open any .xui file in the XUITool, then you`ll be able to open .xur files.

You have that backwards. lol. The xur files in the skin will only open in XUItool, the xui file that is made by XUItool is just an xml file. :) If you dont have a copy of the XDK, then you are out of luck. It isnt that hard to find, but distributing it is illegal, and we wont have any of that here.

wrong. i don`t have the xdk, but only xuitool itself, which works like a charm. and i had the same problem, when i tried to open xur in the xuitool for the first time, i got an error, cause for the first time xuitool asks to open the main skin`s xui file. after doing that you`ll be able to open any xur or xui.

i know, what i`m talking about...

It might come with xna studio also, but I have never messed with that, as I have the XDK. ;) Why would I lock my self down to a less powerful programming language, and then only be able to produce Indie games. Then again, someone might have released a hacked version that is just xuitool, but I find that doubtful. :(

I came back to say thanks, I had a difficult time finding a .xui file but after I did I was able to open .xur files. I spent some time last night doing modifications to the gamelist_icon.xur file and changed the amount of tabs and now I only get the list. WOOHOO.
