Noob here...When going into default dash, keep getting message to update. What should I do.

Recommended Posts

Thanks for anyone replying to this,

Background and system setup.

My console was RGH flashed by someone else, roughly 2 months ago but just now have the time to set things up.

I dont have a usb drive. (My current one is inaccessible)

All my games run from my NAS device using conx.

My games run fine minus a few (Fatal Crashes) that I will not cover since its a completelty diffrent issue that what I am asking about now.

Running Dashboard 2.0.16756.0

Running Freestyle Dash 3

=======================

My issue

When I have to boot into the default dash, the system keeps asking me to update,

I know I should never never update without researching and I have done that for the most part for the past 3-4 days.

But the answer somehow eludes me.

Should I do the update?

What updates are compatilbe without breaking my system?

I dont care about the avatar and stuffs but I will install if needed. (That is actually an issue I would have looked into way later.)

When adding games, I always download the title updates after.

I havent played the games other than starting to see if they work, they dont ask to apply any updates from what I can remmember.

I would like take care of this issue since its the most severe for me, I dont want someone else starting up my box and applying this update.

I can FTP into the xbox and the NAS and transfer, delete any files you ask.

Thanks all.

You need to downgrade your kernel to 16747 and install the Avatar update...

Downgrading the kernel is the same as installing an updated version, please download a official package and not one that says something like "16756" or "16767" as these are unofficial, the official packages of xeBuild GUI, xeBuild, JRunner and AutoGG only have the name of the application + version of it, nothing more... they can all be found on http://www.homebrew-connection.org/

First, Thank you for your reply Swizzy, much appreciated,

I assume I can use your guide here?:

http://www.realmodscene.com/index.php?/topic/2205-xebuild-freeboot-nand-update-tutorial/

I would use the .bin and the KV_info.txt that I received from the Mod guy.

Load that up in the xeBuild app and proceed with your guide?

Console Type: Falcon

That is one guide you can follow yes, it's not mine tho... it's jpizzle's ;)

You should use what's currently on your console, that's better then using files that are old... you don't really know for sure if he gave you the correct files for your console and it's very easy to redump your console without any special hardware once it's been hacked :)

Personally i'd use my own guide: http://xebuildtut.xeupd.com/

Hi Swizzy, you are correct, I missed that aplogies to jpizzle.

And thank you for your tools and help, I never thought I could delve this deep into this (reminds me of the LT and jungleflasher days)

So I have successfully downgraded my kernel to 2.0.16747.0 verfied through the NXE dash....(SWEEET)

I am on the next stage, downloading the avatar information,

remember, I dont have a usb stick.

I am doing a manual download from

http://www.homebrew-connection.org/files/xbox/system_updates/dl_%24SystemUpdate_16747.zip

I assume I can put this on the Hard drive of the 360,

Where on the drive do I put it, every tutorial I have come accross discusses this in depth but they all mention using a usb drive,

Is it possible to do this from the internal or from the NAS drive?

You must install it using a USB drive, there's no way around that, you can use any usb hdd or usb thumbdrive/stick as long as it's FAT32 formatted it should work... of course, it has to be big enough to house all the files, so smallest possible memory is 256mb when they follow the standard size)

Xebuild has an option to push the update across the network. I use j-runner for this, as i have found it the easiest. this is the best way to upgrade/downgrade your xbox. google xebuild update server j-runner, or I believe it is page 24 or 27 of the j-runner pdf.
